I assume I'm alone in this? You lads all ready to flay Kelly if we fall short against Stanford?
You are not alone. This is pretty much how I feel. Now since I am making the road trip out to Stanford I would really like to see us win but won't be crushed if we lose (sort of like when I went out to USC in 2012).

I have actually spent time considering which is a better way to finish the season: 1. lose to Stanford and beat Florida or somebody in the Fiesta Bowl, or 2. make the playoff but lose to Ohio St or Alabama in the semifinal.

I think you have to take a playoff appearance over a New Years bowl no matter what, but it wasn't a crazy question to consider.

One problem is "somebody" might be a pretty bad team. The Fiesta might get sloshed with Houston.

You mean you're not stoked about a rematch from the legendary "Chicken Soup" Bowl?

Aren't you a little tired of perpetually explaining that Houston was once a good program in a major conference? Now it would have to be Well they overachieved in a minor conference that was overachieving that year.

Yeah, I still mourn for the demise of the Southwest Conference.

I miss the paradox of considering them a power conference and whooping them over and over in the Cotton Bowl.

We held the #4 slot, we should enjoy it as long as it lasts.

Still, the SWC got their licks in at times. I'm still mad about the '88 Cotton Bowl when A&M stole Tim Brown's towel.

I thought that was 87 vs ThugU.

Miami '87 was in their place and we got blown out 24-0. A&M was also a blowout. That A&M loss was our last one for the next 23 games--our next loss wasn't until at ThugU in '89.

To your original point, I'm pretty sure the towel incident was in the Cotton Bowl but I'd have to double check.

ugh, up 10-3 and then and endzone pick flips the script. That sounds like a Holtz team. The Aggies also sorta got us when we didn't beat them by enough in the 94 Bowl.

I thought that one of the undefeated pretenders would jump us and I think they eventually will, (or lose).

I really think the best scenario this weekend would be losses by both Oklahoma teams. Knocks the Sooners out, and then they can give the Cowboys their 2nd loss the following week. Baylor then takes out TCU the following week, and struggles with or loses to Texas on Dec 5. Two losses for everyone in the Big 12 would be ideal.

Probably none of that happens, Oklahoma beats TCU this weekend, and we have to root for them to beat OSU and trust the committee to use that Texas common opponent to favor us.

We should probably say a few words about our rivalry with BC.

'93 and Ty inexplicably breaking out green jerseys for his first loss in '02 are low points for me.

Cant wait to see what bull**** scenario you come up with this week on how ND misses the playoff given they beat Stanford.

Based on how we're playing tonight, beating Stanford is unbelievably far from given.

I expect Stanford to come out tonight and look great... Then next week ND will be an underdog and the public will hammer Stanford and ND will beat them. This is the typical letdown game. A W is a W.

Who is trying to impress the committee? Notre Dame doesn't need to. If they beat Stanford by 1 next week they are in the playoffs... It's as simple as that.

Not even close. Tonight was a disaster as far as the eye test goes.
