Great win. Oh, and 5 star 2016 OT Tommy Kraemer just committed.

I roasted Boob Davies for calling it on 4th and forever which lost the 2000 MSU game so I'm staying consistent. Especially because a tackle after a first down and the Indians might not be able to get the fg off or they would be rushed and shaky.

yeah saw the OT commit. we're just clinical in offensive line recruiting.

god i am so glad of the win. i would've been depressed for days if we lost that game. honestly it shouldn't have been that close. outgained them 370 to 204. they had like 90 yards of offense in the second half.

it's pretty incredible that the defense is playing at such a high level, and so many of the kids out there are true freshmen

in other news, the offensive line is a disaster

shades of 2007 with that game

Did Ole Miss already leap us last week or do we have to wait until tomorrow?

If Ole Miss doesn't leapfrog us and we move to #5, there's a small chance that FSU/ND is #1 versus #2

Next week UCLA plays Oregon, Baylor plays TCU, and Auburn plays Ole Miss

The winner of the ND-FSU game goes to the playoff barring a late season meltdown. But I don't see the committee ever putting both FSU and ND in.

The only thing that would piss me off is if an 11-1 Irish squad was excluded for a 2nd SEC team. They schedule like wusses and stay high with inflated rankings.

I don't like the SEC either, but that conference is a meat grinder. An 11-1 SEC team would likely have more claim to a playoff spot than an 11-1 Irish team, especially if the Irish lose to FSU.

I'm not too concerned with rankings right now. I'm expecting that if the Irish are unbeaten, they'll be in the playoff, and if they lose, they won't be.

Close loss against FSU will keep us in the picture. Only chance of ND plummeting in the polls would be a blowout loss.

#1 against #4, a close loss likely drops ND to like...#8?

I don't think there's too much point worrying about the machinations as of yet. Golson is the truth but we'll be dogs in two weeks time.

polls don't matter anymore

So with 5 of the top 8 teams losing, we'd normally move up to #4. However, with the SEC feedback loop of, "The SEC is the best conference, therefore SEC teams beating other SEC teams counts for the most in the polls" we're probably going to end up at 6 or so, with Ole Miss and Miss St each leapfrogging us. Still, we control our destiny. Playoff chances hinge on beating FSU.

I think:

- run table and playoff;
- lose 1 or more games and bowl;

Is correct ultimately. If we did go undefeated I'd reckon we'd be in at the expense of SEC #2 which I'd enjoy.

Still, this talk is irrelevant in advance of FSU imo

I called it. ND #6 in the AP poll behind FSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss St, and Baylor.

The scenario for a 1-loss ND team in the playoffs are a lot more expansive than you guys think, given the carnage this weekend. With a win next week, we'll probably be 4th and maybe 3rd depending on how everything plays out.

this weekend last year there were 16 undefeated teams, 9 one-loss teams in the top 25

in 2014 there are 9 undefeated teams, 15 one-loss teams, and 1 two loss team in the top 25

I mean we're in great shape to make a top tier non-playoff bowl if that's where we have to go. I'm not sure, however, how much people will care about these at the dawn of the playoff era.

You sure did. SEC feed back loop, I love it.

The issue is how far the voters drop us if we lose to FSU, never mind getting nicked by our schedule. If they secretly think we're a #22 team then that's where they'll put us and we won't climb high enough if we go 11-1.

The old rule from the polls is still in play, if you are going to lose, lose early.

Just poached quarterback Brandon Wimbush from Pedo State. He was their top recruit this year. Consensus top 100 kid.

Was coming here to post this. Certainly lessens the sting of losing Blake Barnett.
