Am I wrong in thinking Giambi's pituitary thing and ARod's cyst in his hip are related to whatever they are/were taking? I'm not trying to judge, just seems plausible. I can easily see fans treating this A-Rod contract similarly to the Giambi one.

The cyst was caused by a labrum tear, which seems to be related to a bone issue (bone spur? I'm not sure). I have no idea what affect steroids may have had on that.

Quote:
Freddie H. Fu, chairman of the sports medicine department at the University of Pittsburgh, said the hip is like a ball and socket, with the labrum acting as a washer holding the pieces together.

“As the tear becomes bigger and bigger, it’s like a broken washer that moves around in the hip and causes symptoms,” he said.

If Rodriguez, 33, continues to play with the tear, he risks damaging the cushioning in his hip socket, which could lead to further deterioration. He is signed for nine more seasons, and his admission last month of steroid use from 2001 to 2003 further complicates the question of just how durable Rodriguez really is. (Medical experts, however, believe a cyst on the hip is not caused by injections with needles.)

the yankees just need to operate on him

doesnt risk future damage, guarantees we'll get at least 1/3 of a season out of him and sets this all to rest

How did they treat the Giambi deal?

Never in 7 years did I get any sense of a fan backlash against Giambi or his contract, if that's what you are implying.

I'm starting to wonder how much of this wait-and-see approach to Arod's injury stems from the fact that individual-game tickets have yet to go on sale.

the more i think about, the more i convince myself that the yankee season probably will not hinge on whether arod plays 4 months or 6. i mean, sure, it could come down to 2 wins or so, but really, i'd rather him get healthy in april and may, then have to go under the knife in July/August after blaming the labrum for poor plate performance. although i haven't yet considered his replacements.

Yes. Not to mention you say it in your normal condescending tone which makes it utterly ******ed.

Peter Abraham says he thinks ARod will have surgery as soon as Monday.

Quote:
Question: Is there a possibility Alex could have surgery in the next few days?

Girardi: “That’s a determination Alex and the doctors have to make. The organization will continue to discuss it with both parties. But yeah, there is a possibility.”

In the past, whenever Girardi has used the word “possibility” that was exactly what happened.

Everyone says that, including Yankees fans.

Then we proceed to play 6-14 for the 20 games he's gone.

5-11 for the 16 games in April/May when he was on the DL.

That 5-11 was BEFORE we started trotting out the likes of Rasner and Ponson too.

I am really starting to wonder if we got quacks in our training and medical staffs.

I mean, what have we got in the past few years? Knees, hamstrings, lis francs, mysterious rib fractures, undetected short sightedness, and god knows what I left out.

I know our team is aging and all. But at some point there are just too many coincidences.

I think they should mandate all players to undergo an in-depth physical and/or MRI exam at each season's end. Obv. most guys will raise red-flags from a season-long's grind but at least they'll be able to pick up more threatening injuries like Arod's.

KBZ, very nice.

Also:

Supposedly the photo shoot was a few hours after the SI reporter told him she was writing the steroid story. I'm starting to think ARod is a bit of a weirdo.

Starting? The metro-sexualness didn't give it away 10 years ago?
