I don't even know how Joe Morgan plays here.

Its a matter of fact that pitchers have some level of control over BABIP.

And one of the surest ways to increase BABIP is getting into bad counts with sliders out of the zone and then feeding straight fastballs down the middle.

All we can hope for is that his command will follow the return of his velocity. If that doesn't happen, we have a Farnsworth Mk. II on our hands.

Is Joba running into some hard luck? Sure. The numbers are too far apart to suggest otherwise. But luck isn't even close to the entire picture.

I lurk in other threads, I just don't have anything interesting to contribute (I know, I don't contribute anything interesting here either. hardy har har). Who wants to hear me post about how awesome Kevin Ollie is in the NBA threads?

About Joba, they're not going to trade for someone better. Like some of you guys said, he's been really unlucky. I'm sure Michael Wuertz could be had, but unlike Joba, he has actually been terrible this year (super small sample size, obviously). Who the heck wants Kerry Wood?

They still have some options in the minors. Mitre will be back after the ASB. Albaladejo has been lights out all year. Romulo Sanchez has shown some good signs. Ivan Nova could probably help them if they moved him to the bullpen. But I think the main reason they won't make a big trade for a reliever is Phil Hughes. If they're serious about capping his innings at 175 or 180 like people have said, then he's going to be in the bullpen for the playoffs (should they be fortunate enough to get there).

I do think they'll trade for a bench player, someone like Ty Wigginton.

BTW, that's not to say I'm against trading for a reliever. If someone who is legitimately good and doesn't cost a lot in prospects is available, I'd be all for it.

Edit: For example, if the Royals want to give away Joakim Soria, then hell yeah.

Kevin Gregg just went on the trading block - he's a FA at the end of the year, so he might be able to be had w/prospects.

Ted Lilly talks are also heating up, which might be the better play, placing Hughes back in the BP.
