You do realize the bet you offered has no bearing on your stance?

It'd be like saying "Its gonna come up heads next flip." Someone disagrees, and you respond, "Well lay -5000 that it won't."

? My bet was fine? I forget the specifics but it was basically anyone could bet me that a team would have a better bullpen ERA+ than the Yankees but you had to bet on at least 8(I think? somewhere between 5 and 10) teams. If you think the Yankees have a very bad bullpen, how was that not a layup?

Last edited by THAY3R; 02-26-2009 at 08:32 PM. Reason: It was 12, still +EV if you don't think the Yankees pen is better than average(he thought they were horrible)

Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

2008 yankee pen - rivera & Joba = 4.29era = 23rd in league

This season you guys could expect 4.10~ era I'd say.

If bruney gets hurt again, the bullpen is screwed imo

We never agreed on any terms, so no you weren't right. But I said several times that the Yankees have a 2 man bullpen. Also, I believed that yankees pen - joba and rivera would have 6era(who knows what I was thinking them) while it ended up being 4.29.

But this year sure Ill bet 100~ or so if u want on various bullpen stats, sorry I don't have a 5 or 6 figure roll like you.

I still believe strongly that the yankees have a 1man bullpen, that is fairly weak outside rivera.

Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

So your argument is that having 2 great relievers(1 being the best ever) and a bunch of scrubs is bad?

Call me crazy but having 2 awesome relievers and then picking scrubs randomly out of a hat is a pretty awesome situation to have.

And Joba didn't even pitch much in relief last year and they were still 7th in the majors in Bullpen ERA with a godawful defense.

And yes I was right. Your position : lol Yanks pen is horrible. My position : lol your retarded they're not bad let's make a bet.

lol, didn't you predict over 6?

Compare their Bullpen ERA - their 2 best with other teams Bullpen ERA - their 2 best, I'm pretty sure the Yankees would stack up pretty well. OR you could state that they'd have the 23rd best ERA WITHOUT 2 OF THE BEST RELIEVERS IN BASEBALL AS IF THAT MEANS ANYTHING

NOT THAT THAT EVEN MATTERS. Who the **** even cares about how good your 5th best reliever is doing, you think he will be pitching in the playoffs/important situations?

in toronto they don't have the playoffs or important situations. if bruney gets hurt, melancon steps in. or phil coke. or the tons of other guys the yankees have in and around the bullpen. albadajedo.

That is a pretty epic math failure. Like monstrously epic. Like you may have been a -3000ish fave on that.

I still strongly believe you know nothing about the arms in the Yankee bullpen.

Anyone see the new hats the Yankees are going to wear this year with the patch on the back? Looks kind of weird (not the patch itself but the placement of it).

Umm, I don't think you get the bet? If you think the Yankees are a below median bullpen then randomly picking 12 teams would be +ev, let alone the option of choosing the teams....

Re: New York Yankees 2009: the house that <blank> built

I am a giant frekking Yankees fan and I think we could use help in the 7 and 8th innings.

Unless Bruney has a truly break out year, we're probably gonna clock high 3 (like 3.8) ERA at best from teh bullpen, not counting blowouts where we send in mop up pitchers.

Within the division, Red Sox and Rays probably both have better bullpens, especially in the 7th and 8th innings.

The Rays especially... good god, their bullpen is stacked. They got multiple closer quality relievers pitching in the 7/8th innings... it's pretty sick.

if the yankees want to do that, they should consider getting a real shortstop before they go out upgrading a bullpen that doesn't need a [censored] upgrade. the rays pen is sick in part because they actually have a 'defense'.

Man take the econ discussion elsewhere. I have a degree in economics too, but I just want to talk about the Yankees.

Re: New York Yankees 2009: the house that <blank> built

One of my biggest fears for this season:

We get stuck with the abysmal offense of Gardner or Melky (assuming they don't have some sort of break out year) in CF in the name of "defense" while Swisher spends most of the season on the bench because of his hard luck season last year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure having Damon or Swisher in CF with their offense more than makes up for the loss of defense, which I think is already overstated. I'm not sure Melky is anything more than a slightly-above-average CF.

Just make sure you have the bandwith open and HD is awesome, I would go premium just for it.

provided the DVR works properly I could see it being very, very useful, but mlb.tv can be problematic sometime in implementing new things.

i don't see swisher spending the year on the bench. he and nady will platoon. or, more likely, one of them gets traded, because i don't see nady being very happy getting 200-300 PAs.
