Jesus, this is intolerable. Sutcliffe is now explaining how Mariano and Maddux sometimes just throw a fastball down the middle to try to end the at bat.

Edit: And the video "evidence" that they're showing are all nasty pitches on the corners with movement.

If someone else had started this would be a close game and Joba could be the bridge to Mo. That's what you want in baseball. A bridge to your closer so you win close games.

Why does Coke get so much action? 10 appearances for a guy that wasn't that spectacular in minors or so far this year.. and it doesn't look like he's any better at getting lefties out from his minor league splits so he's even a waste of a lefty.

edit: meh he wasn't bad in the minors at all, just seems like he gets a lot of love when we have some guys that deserve more, like Robertson

edit edit: WOooo well done coke obv.

edit 3x: after like 30min research, the split vs lefty thing looks kinda meaningless, and he's been ok, i take back the harsh things. still want robertson though.

Coke has been pretty stellar since the move to the bullpen. 23 1-3 innings, 21 K, 6 BB in the majors. Seems like he deserves to keep pitching.

Also, he averaged more than 2 K/9 better vs. lefties than righties in the minors while the other rate stats are about the same.

But yeah, hopefully Robertson will get his chance to pitch some high-leverage innings. I think the fact that he hasn't been used in mop up duty the last few nights might mean Girardi plans to use him in bigger spots.

Wrong. Steve Phillips is underrated and is he absolutely correct in this case. Joba Chamberlain's velocity is down. He should be throwing 98 MPH over the course of 8 innings and should only be giving up 2 hits, not 3.

Poor outing for Joba tonight and if he had been out there to pitch that 9th inning, they never would have had to escape a near meltdown of the bullpen.
