Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

oops looks like i set the line way too low. 225˝ seems like a better line based on the beginning of this thread.

anyway i am just hoping posada can play catcher.

As a Yankee hater last few years, your guys starting pitching has improved bajillion times but your 1 man bullpen is still exploitable and pretty awful.

Enjoy the damaged goods burnett for the next 5 years....

Enjoy 2nd/3rd in AL East

Leave it to a Jays fan to bash the Yankees about the only thing their team is good at (and what doesn't matter much in the long run).

you were wrong about this last year. do you want to be wrong again this year? the yankees bullpen is neither exploitable nor awful.

One bullpen pitcher with an era under 3.5 with a valid sample size, i'm not sure what you consider that. The overall era was 3.79, but will go up .5 at least with no joba anymore.

Maybe Im a stuck up Jays fan use to half of our bullpen with an era under 3 last few years, but in my books decent relievers should have under 3 era with 50ip+

well in the yankees books - they have a terrible defense. second, the yankees were third in the majors in bullpen WXRL (Win Expectation Above Replacement). yes, no joba hurts somewhat, but no latroy hawkins, billy traber, and kyle farnsworth helps. the yankees have several solid arms, and if those guys screw up, there's 5 more guys who can take their place. what hurts a lot more is a lack of consistent offensive production from center field.

Pretty ridic to start off a post with "as a yankee hater." Is it so hard to just not enter the thread?

Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

apparently, the bullpen of Marte, Bruney, Edwar, Albaladejo and Veras (aside from Mo and without mentioning Hughes, Aceves, Melancon, and Coke waiting in the wings) do not add up to having anyone in the bullpen.

what can i say? blue jay fans are blessed with a pretty deep system if they can beat this kind of bullpen staff.

To be fair, they can. But it doesn't matter all that much.

Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

tercet is something of a homer. I'm looking forward to loving to hate the Yankees again this year; it's no fun when they're off their game like they were last year. I also find myself admiring the Yankees for the amount of dumb they have to put up with from some of their fans and the Post, and with all this A-Roid business on the table and Swish on the team (and perhaps with Joba in the rotation), there ought to be no shortage this year.

really? their depth chart looks like this : Scott Downs (L) Brandon League (R) Jeremy Accardo (R) Shawn Camp (R) Jesse Carlson (L)

is that really better than the yankees BP? (honest question, maybe they are). what does their farm system look like to trump hughes, melancon, and coke?

Tons of depth: BJ Ryan, Scott Downs, Brandon League, Casey Janssen, Jesse Carlson, Jeremy Accardo, Brian Wolfe. Maybe Brian Tallet, Shawn Camp, Jason Frasor. Janssen will likely end up in the rotation, but still, I think it's safe to say that there are more quality guys there than in the Yankee pen.

Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

Why does everyone think im crazy?

Yes mariano is an awesome closer, hes sick but hes nearly 40 now he might regress.

Bruney's above average rp with good fb

veras/ramirez are average reliever's at best

marte is average lhp

albaladejo's proven nothing yet..

hughes has dominated minors, but gotten hammered for the most in 2 partial seasons in majors

I seriously don't see why any of you guys think your bullpen is anything but average.

because you don't know what you're talking about. that's why. almost all of the players you have mentioned are young and should get better this year. then throw in the fact that you haven't at all looked at the yankees defense, which was between average and terrible in about every non-left field and catcher position last year. the point is that the yankees have 6 or 7 arms who can strike out a man per inning, they've got a solid left hander in marte (lol @ marte being average), and there's a few more arms behind them if they can't get the job done. their bullpen won't likely be 3rd in the league next year, but it's above average.

and rivera walked 6 men last year.

Re: New York Yankees 2009: Girardi Gets His Ring

wait, you think Mo will finally regress, but you don't think that League, Downs, Carlson, and Wolfe will regress from their insane 2008 ERA+ numbers over some smallish samples?

that's another thing that hasn't been brought up, Blue Jays are losing 220+ IP of solid starting. that would be an indicator that their BP will have to work harder this year. i am not saying that's what the yankees are gaining in Burnett, but their rotation is way deeper this year.

spring training games starting just how we all expected - brett gardner with a home run. is this like when willie mays hayes starts hitting them out in exhibition?

I think what you but mostly tercet is overrating to the max is how small the difference between the 2 pens is and on the impact of that difference on a team's W/L.
