No we're not. But we will beat the **** out of the Twins in the playoffs like we do every single year. Agree the pitching will be a problem against Houston though. Chapman has me genuinely concerned too

Agreed about Chapman. I mean Mo was usually good for one stretch of 4-5 outings every year where he was shaky, but he'd always return to form after that. Chappy doesn't have quite the track record to make me certain it's just a blip. So many great closers have crashed and burned over the years and it sucks when it's happening to yours.

Hopefully in 4 to 5 weeks when Betances comes back, we could platoon the closer role

Tauchman gotta stay up this time. Stud city. Hopefully we can trade Frazier before the deadline for something valuable. Love this team

Add Cameron Maybin to the better than Stanton list. Guy comes off the DL right where he left off

Going into that series I had basically been thinking I'd be at peace with losing 3/4, dropping two games in the standings at this point is pretty inconsequential but losing four would kinda suck. Didn't think I'd be sweating the 9th in the last game just to get the one win though.

So who's the favorite now that Stroman is off the table? Any slim chances we'd stand pat are obviously gone after the debacle this week and losing CC on top of it. At this point, I almost feel like our only path to the WS is to make a trade that works out, and have Severino come back (might even need Montgomery too, lol) and be effective. I guess either that or some ridiculous rungood in terms of both opponents and results in October.

And he's going to say this b******* about we didn't want to trade this Prospect or we didn't want to trade that Prospect...Cashman newsflash no one gives a f***...your.mandate is to win the ****ing World Series not hold onto Clint Frazier to have him waste away in AAA.

Its ****ing garbage and if this team loses in game 7 in the ALCS to Houston because we cant match up with their starters then Cashman should be fired...simple as that.

If Cashman couldn't get a deal done it wasn't for lack of trying I'm sure. I'm sure some teams were asking for the moon, some pitchers (like Grienke) didn't have the Yanks on their no-trade list and would never want to come to NY, and of course guys like Bumgarner became unavailable. The Mets didn't help by taking a likely target out of the mix early by giving the Jays what probably amounts to a bucket of balls.

Doesn't make it suck any less, though. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop now and hear that Severino had pain while soft-tossing or something and is being shut down until 2020.

Who exactly did you guys want?

Bumgarner was the only realistic guy who is a massive postseason upgrade and we just got super unlucky the Giants got hot and think they're in contention and its Bochees last season ever.

Syndegaard was the only other upgrade but the Mets are never trading him to the Yanks unless they absolutely fleece us.

Greinke is a ****ing weirdo introvert who is adamant about not playing in NY and we will crush him in the postseason.

Bauer, Stroman, Ray, etc...are all Paxton level dudes. If Paxton weren't a yankee and were available at the deadline the same people who are mad ad Cashman for not getting those bums would be mad he didnt trade for Paxton. Same for Happ

Agreed on that last point especially. Stroman is the one I'm pissed about missing out on since he did grow up around here and definitely wouldn't wilt under the pressure, which is always the big variable with these guys and I think likely has happened with both Paxton and Happ. He supposedly had to dispel rumors that he was throwing **** around in the Jays clubhouse when he found out that he was traded to NY, but to the ****ty team. (Of course watch the Mets now somehow sneak into the 2nd WC spot in the NL, and then proceed to advance further than us in the playoffs.)

It really is amazing how the Yankees are forced to pay a premium on every trade. I still remember when the Dbacks called the Yankees and wanted Posada and Soriano for Schilling then turned around and dealt him for Casey Fossum. I mean it’s a joke.

It's not about the premium...it's about would you pay it or not.

I'm not...yeah he's pitched ok this season but overall he's a 3 at best and the Yanks already have that on lock. They missed an opportunity and hopefully it doesn't kill them in the playoffs.

That said immediate need is for Sevy and Dellin to come back quick...specifically Dellin.

If that happens and both come back to form the plan changes...

In terms of the long term view, I've seen a couple people mention that the Yankees window is just beginning to open. This team is going to be really good for quite a few years and as much as it might hurt if the playoffs don't go well, I fully expect the Yankees to be serious contenders for quite a few more years. So I think it would've been more frustrating if the Yankees window was closing and this may have been our last shot with this particular core.

We may have lowered our odds this year but if we've raised our odds for multiple future years, the gambler in me says that's a +EV play.

That's been my thinking as well. It's easy to believe otherwise because every radio sports host seems to love to push this dramatic narrative that "this team has huge expectations and if they don't make the WS this year there'll be hell to pay", but George isn't around anymore and it really isn't the case.

The fact is we're slightly ahead of the rebuild schedule we were on, but the fact that we binked a WC spot, a play-in win and a series win over CLE two years ago messed up everyone's thinking.
