As a Toronto fan I am rooting for Happ to beat the Red Sox in the opener. When The Red Sox signed Price, Happ became our "poor man's" David Price, and he was worth every dollar and then some... Kinda rooting for him to do well....
Stanton hasn’t been able to get his timing locked in this whole season. Even during his hot stretch after Judge went down it wasn’t like he was owning the zone. He’s got so much raw power there’s damage made and effectiveness in just making contact, rather than swinging with max force
It would be interesting to see his swing path this year vs years past. His homers seem more of the launched moon shot variety than line drive laser beams; and a lot of his hard contact looks like a chopping motion. The ball is crushed but you can tell it’s odd mechanics
In his third AB he took a massive whiff high in the zone, then on the 0-1 pitch made an adjustment and controlled the zone for a gapper
Next AB with bases loaded no outs he took same massive swing for an 0-1 count, got into 0-2 on a fastball way in on his hands, and eventually whiffed on the breaking stuff away. Ninth inning he couldn’t swing. It looks like that when bad mechanics don’t cover for guessing wrong on the pitch. Hopefully he can make the adjustment and get back to see ball, hit ball. Right now he’s got no chance vs good pitching and isn’t even punishing mistakes
