Man this team reminds me of the 1996 Yankees. Switch Judge and Jeter as rookies. 1996 team also had to beat good starting pitchers. It's just a joy to watch.

Y.E.D. is here yet again....but this time it does feel a lot different.

I'll say this about this team...for a team that nobody picked to do jack **** to come within 1 game of the World Series...to see the youth on this team takeoff, makes me like over the moon hopeful that number 28 is coming soon.

It sucks now but the future is bright...see ya guys next season.

I had a bad feeling about these last two games. Way too many people were calling up WFAN and talking about the WS roster and **** after game 5, as though it were a done deal. Great season obv but definitely bummed out about the way it ended. I guess it could have been worse, if it finished 1-0 with us flying out to the wall in dead center another half dozen times I'd have trouble sleeping tonight.

Definitely need to shore up the rotation in the offseason if we can. While I'd love to have CC back at the right price, I really don't know what we can expect out of him. Wouldn't mind if we can keep Frazier around either.

This team reminded me of the 95 Yankees. Next year is our if we perform well.

I almost wish there was no off day between 5 & 6. Yankees had all the momentum fro the 3 in a row in the Bronx.

Momentum is the next day's starting pitcher, as they say. We ran into a mini buzz saw with Verlander and a much better Morton, don't think a quick turnaround would have mattered.

I hope this is the start of something like we had in the late 90s, certainly has all the looks of it...but of course there are no guarantees. Mets looked like they were gonna be a perennial playoff team for a while, and went from WS berth to WC loser to rebuilding again in two years. Look to the future, but make sure you enjoy every playoff run while it lasts.

Hot Take

It seems to me that this team is pretty well set for 2018 except for another starting pitcher or two and a DH. Cashman has done an incredible job remaking this roster and getting so many solid cost controller players with high upside. Truly masterful.

At SP, Darvish, Cobb, Arrietta and CC are all interesting possibilities but the Yankees may elect to give Chance Adams his, well, his chance.

With the A-Rod contract finally coming off the books as well as a bunch of other money, they Yankees still have a good $40 million or so to play with and can still stay under the luxury threshold. They may hold on to some of that money to save up for what should be an epic free agent class post 2018 season.

But I just don't see too many places to easily upgrade other than SP, 3B, and DH. Headley isn't great but with Andujar and Torres in the minors, I don't really see Cashman making a move here.

At DH, Carlos Santana, Logan Morrison, and Jose Bautista are all interesting possibilities but I expect Cashman to upgrade here or maybe bring Holliday back on the cheap.

You can literally never have too much pitching. If I were Cashman, I'd make a move for one of those FA starters, and try to sign CC for cheap, and if Adams comes up, we'll figure it out. There will be injuries.

If we were more confident about Torres being major league ready in the spring, dangling Castro for a starter could also be an interesting option.

Yea who is the upgrade on Girardi? Really strange move when this team massively overachieved this season and seems set for the next 5+ years

So my first reaction is still wtf. But if you go back to the Mike and Joe interview in this thread then think about what went down today and you'll start to see things making sense.

If you believe that the relationship was already strained then game 2 against Cleveland was the straw that broke the camel's back...and not even number 28 would have stopped this from happening.

Its still bull**** imo because its so obvious how hard this team fights for Joe and has his back. Ultimately though it is what it is.

Such a stupid move unless you already have a specific plan in place. They better not bring some dope like Mattingly or Baker.

I think Al Pedrique is going to be the next manager. He already has the relationship with Judge, Severino, Bird and Sanchez. The younger guys really seem to like him, and I think he will provide the necessary energy for these guys to thrive.

Do good baseball managers even exist? It seems like the good ones are bailed out by good players. Even a guy like Joe Maddon looks like a dope when his moves don't work out. A baseball manager seems like one of those jobs where as long as you limit the **** ups, you are considered to be good. Don't Mark Prior someone's arm off, don't bat the pitcher 8th, etc.

Obv it won't be Dusty Baker but I'm legit nervous it will be someone like Mattingly who is so terrible.

Move makes no sense with an up and coming young team who just massively overachieved and took a huge step forward and were finally likeable again
