GMs/ownership have so much say in everything now, all the way down to the lineup and rotation, that there's less and less for the manager to do. This is very well what it might have come down to--Cashman might have wanted a good soldier who will fall in line with his day-to-day decisions, and Girardi wasn't willing to be that guy.

2004 tho...Tito is Elite but hes not coming to NY neither is Dusty.or Donnie baseball....or A Rod.

Pedrique is probably the one that makes the most sense but i doubt he gets the job.

Its gonna be someone thats essentially a yes guy to Cashman, but still a players coach. Someone good with the media, buys into the sabermetrics, and is cheap.

Yea I was just thinking how much of a pain in the ass it must be for the GM to have a analytical approach to building a team and the manager is Buck Showalter refusing to use the best pitcher because it's a tie game on the road or some stupid ****.

No but that's not the point.

not sure how to feel about the hire. I mean if they were just going to pick a name out of a hat i would have like to see David Cone get a shot. Ultimately it doesn't matter because whats clear to see is that Cashman just wants someone in there to push buttons and talk to the media, nothing else. Wonder if Boone will be allowed to even fill out the lineup card

Obviously can't find much to complain about with the move. He's missed time with different injuries, but not the type that would make me worry about his durability. Young enough that there shouldn't be too many painful down years at the end (and maybe none). And all we're really giving up is Castro, who was good but not great, and was probably going to be a man without a position next year anyway. Could be a bit of a painful transition if Torres isn't ready to jump right in, but we can deal.

Of course if I were a Marlins fan, I'd be lighting the torches and sharpening the pitchforks. Nothing like finally getting rid of Loria, and then realizing he sold to a group that's loaded with debt and is planning yet another fire sale. Kind of a last **** you to the fans from Loria I guess, since it's my understanding Jeter's group only offered a few million $$ more than the guy who actually wanted to build a winner.

Mets or anyone want a free Ellsbury?

The contract so many people knew was awful the minute it was signed needs to be bought out or traded and eaten.

Obv Giancarlo is a trade you have to make for the price but 10 years at big money is scary and I don't want Gardy or Hicks to move. Hopefully they don't get an LOL old and one of them can dh regularly so all 4 can play and Sanchez can learn to catch. Stadium should be half full for batting practice.

So is Torres gonna play 2b or 3b? Nice to have that flexibility I suppose.

Also, Chad Green to enter spring training as a starter.

Tanaka
CC
Gray
Severino
Montgomery
Green

My guess is that's the rotation if the yankees are going to stay under the luxury tax threshold.

Man, that rotation has the potential to be a ****ing mess. I get that there's not a ton in the way of free agent starters out there, but yeesh. I don't want to have one of those years where we win 95 games but half of them are 8-7 or something, which doesn't work at all in the playoffs.

I know I'm dreaming but they might make Stanton a full time DH, and still pursue Bryce Harper next year. Dump Ellsbury somewhere, and utilize Gardner/Hicks more . Outfield would be LF-Harper CF Gardner, RF Judge. DH Stanton

Infield could be Todd Frazier (if they get him), Didi, Gleybar, Bird.

Catcher= Kraken.

Lineup would be

Harper
Judge
Bird
Stanton
Didi
Sanchez
Gardner
3B
Gleybar
