Agree he's not at his peak, but we could still get high level prospects for him. I'd hate to see it get to the point where we get a Devin Mesoracco type return.

He's not Matt Harvey. His Statcast numbers are still pretty strong even with the drop in strikeouts.

Read something the other day that guys who throw hard sliders are most negatively affected by the changes to the baseball. Guess who those guys are?

It's really messed up, but it seems the new juiced balls are particularly designed to **** Mets pitchers.

Mets have three starters top 28 in fWAR this year. Among those guys, only ones with an ERA above four are Sale (who threw six shutout innings today), Marquez (Coors), Wheeler and Syndergaard.

Can someone explain to me why Callaway is still employed?

Cause he's not the problem. Canning him midseason does nothing

He will likely be let go for Girardi or Showalter in the offseason

GM brings in a bunch of guys who sucks and dictates how some of them can be used.

Yup, can the manager.

None of these veteran managers would want any part of this **** show anyway.

Ummmm he’s an awful manager. He isn’t the only problem but he’s a major problem. Last night was another example of his idiocy.

It’s a bit shocking that you guys can’t grasp the idea that both the GM AND the manager are terrible at their jobs.

Just seems stupid to talk about the manager who might win or lose .5 game over the course of a season when we have what is most likely the worst gm in the league.

Try removing the decimal point.

Callaway has managed them into losses a few times this season. He’s a terrible
Manager.

You think a bad manager can cost a team 5 full games of ev over the course of a season? They cannot.

Callaway can.

Half a game is laughable.

You are arguing that the worst managers have a -5 war. That is laughable. Chris Davis had maybe the worst season of all time last year and had a -3.4 war.

The manager affects all the players. I’m not sure about Callaway, but it’s definitely possible to be responsible for -5 wins with bad lineup management, bad use of bullpen, bunting too much, not utilizing defensive shifts correctly etc (though I suppose all of that isn’t on the manager alone)

It's basically not on the manager at all anymore

This. He’s guilty of all of the above.

Can’t believe anyone is defending this guy, he’s incompetent.

Mike Trout is only worth 10 games in his best years. Mangers are worth a few games at best. I guess we've had to deal with Terry Collins for so long that Mickey still seems okay in comparison.

Here's probably a bit of a shock also, but managers aren't even entirely responsible for half the stuff they're getting credit for here. Front offices poker around in lineups, bullpens, and shifting. Not that having the information a good analytics department can give you is bad, but those bull**** Diaz rules were all Brodie.

And once he picked up Stroman, trading Syndergaard would have been ridiculous. Also guess some others are higher on Stroman. He's a good #3 with a decent infield behind him. He might have a .400 BABIP with the Mets. Over 100 pitches by the fourth in half his starts...until he gets hurt.

“Mickey Callaway on why he hasn't dropped Robinson Canó from the Mets' cleanup spot despite his recent 2-for-30 stretch at the plate:

"Not while we're still, still streaking," Callaway said. "Call me superstitious, I guess."

What a manager!!!!

Dear #Mets fans,

I want to thank you, the fans, for your relentless and continued support of the team this season. I wanted to update you on our goals and mission following the trade deadline.

Our focus at the deadline was the same as it has been in the offseason and every day as we go forward. We want to win now and win in the future. We wanted to improve the team for the rest of this year and as head to 2020.

We were able to add Marcus Stroman, one of the best pitchers in baseball and a guy who has New York roots. He is someone who thrives in big moments, craves the competition and wants to be a part of something great.

Jason Vargas is a true pro, a great player and it was a difficult choice to move him, but bringing in Marcus gives us one of the best rotations in baseball. We had a lot of incoming calls on a number of our other players, but at the end of the day we weren’t going to move key pieces on our club unless we felt we would be better positioned moving forward.

We are now the underdogs and chasing the pack. This team has had really good chemistry and positive energy dating back to Spring Training and we now have to overcome what we put ourselves up against.

In the last few weeks, our pitching staff has shown us what we know they are capable of. The team’s performance has been great and we do believe we are capable of playing this type of baseball moving forward.

This group has shown resiliency and has earned the right to go out and play meaningful games in the next two months and I know they’re excited to go and do that. Our organization from ownership on down is supportive and has given us the resources to go win – that’s been our mission and we don’t see that changing.

We’re excited for the rest of this year and to keep this momentum going.

Let’s Go Mets!

BVV
