I hate when people say we can never compare things that aren't EXACTLY the same. Then what the hell is the point of the comparison. I like Santana and hate Glavine. When the runner at 1st is slower than **** and the pitcher can't bunt worth crap, bunting is so wildly incorrect yet still so automatic.

1)Even if he somehow still gets the bunt down kind of decently they often STILL get the lead runner, now you have a slow runner on first who in addition to be slow doesn't really know how to run the bases.
2)Him bunting into a DP is probably more likely than if he just swings.
3)If he does swing, at least when he makes an out the catcher is still usually the runner instead of the pitcher.
4)If he hits a pitcher-like groundball he actually MIGHT advance the runner
5)He can get lucky and get a hit. That's at 10% the bunt being successfully probably is only 30%


Conclusion: Until Mike Pelfrey actually LEARNS from the hitting coach how to bunt, he should not be bunting with slow runners on 1st.
