im biased cuz ive always been a fan of ollie, but what s shame, there are a ton of big league pitchers who wud die to have the natural talent that he has, and hes a lefty on top of that. he really cud have had a very impressing career but instead he was nothing but a big let down..really is too bad, although im sure he cud care less with all the money he has made

we have some good young talent, we need some pitchers and if we r rebuilding we need to square up some of the contracts of the bigger players, or move on and trade them for young talent.

call me crazy but if im moving anyone its wright. its prety clear to see that as reyes goes, the mets go. i think moving him would b a big mistake. same with ike. also i would just plain rather have reyes there. wright is a somewhat soft guy who doesnt seem to cope well with pressure or critics and would probaly be better off out of new york.( if you dont remember he wont speak with or go on fransesa show ever because mike once called him soft and it angered him a great deal). and guys like that arent made for the big apple
I actually hate to say it but i agree. Kinda surprising he was angered by Fatsesa. I never seen him getting agree after a loss. Keeps talking in his girly voice about how they have to play better. Jeez. He needs to grow a pair of balls or just send him out of here. But i could be wrong im just still really pissed at the last 4 (5?) seasons.

Got to disagree.

Wright has been, and will be, the cornerstone of the franchise.. .

Why?

He's got the talent, and more importantly, he stays healthy. You're absolutely right, that as Reyes goes, the Mets Go. But he has shown to be a health risk at times, and at least with Wright, you've got a dependable corner player with talent both offensively and defensively. He's JUST getting into his prime, as I think it's VERY rare to ask a 24/25 year old kid to carry an entire organization on his shoulders, like he did the last few years...

In looking at the current roster, we COULD contend for a wild card, but that's keeping every one of the 8 starting healthy atleast for >80% of the time...

A Lineup of :
Reyes
Pagan
Wright
Beltran
Bay
Ike

Is pretty formidable, especially with Ike growing into his body still and having a year under his belt...

But damn, our SP and BP really really has to pull a rabbit out of their asses if we are to have any chance this year at contending for postseason play.

wright has been the best player on this team every single year, i dont understand why hes always labelled as being unable to deal with the "pressure of new york"

on another note, feliciano is close to signing with the yankees. hes a type B free agent so theyll get a compensatory pick between the 1st and 2nd round

How does Wright compare to Piazza? I don't remember Mike ever getting hate, but then again I was younger for his prime years. Though Piazza was by far my favorite Met so I may have never paid any attention to any Piazza hate, outside of him being a homosexual and having relations with Mr. G.

Piazza legitimized the Mets. Wright is our best homegrown player in 20 years. they are probably equal in most fans' eyes, but id say the 99-2000 run was a lot more fun than 2006 and a boatload of failure, so Wright has yet to pass Piazza, imo.

I didn't keep up with feliciano too much, the mets didn't want to resign him? Maybe wear and tear? Don't recall them trying too hard to resign him...

Guy faces 1 batter per appearance and we're gonna pay him 4M/year?

Pass.

Feliciano may have been the most overrated player on the team. b/c he was a "loogy" you can always make excuses for him "ohhh, well he shouldnt have been facing that guy in that spot" if youre a friggen pitcher, work on getting everyone out. He struck out Utley and Howard a few times over the years and people acted like he was a Godsend. Overrated, a "specialist" (i absolutely hate the terms roogy and loogy, all that says is you suck at half your job) and not worth $4m, that's absurd regardless of the fact that he pitched in 750 games in 4 years somehow.

mets get some ss from the dodgers for a minor league pitcher

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_yl...s-dodgerstrade

setting up to trade reyes?? or move him to 2B for castillo? or just trading one scrub who will never be in the majors for another?

yea just seems stupid to trade for an infielder when they already have 2 1B, 3 2B, 2 3B and 1 SS

and 2 of those 2B can play SS and 3B

Mets sign:

Chris Capuano, 1.5 million dollars + performance bonuses, last year was his first year back in the majors since 2007 after his 2nd tommy john surgery

Taylor Buchholz - non guaranteed 600k. coming off of an elbow injury

and Ryota was DFA

Guess they realized they weren't getting Chris Young for cheap and just picked up random pitchers. Capuano seems like a good deal tho

Brewers fan in the house.

Capuano can definitely be a good #5 starter for you guys. He pitched well when he came back last season. The team broke him back in as a reliever and then put him in the rotation for the final month. He's a really good, smart guy, too with an amazing pickoff move.

If the Brewers wouldn't have signed one of Grienke or Marcum, I think they would've re-signed Capuano.

filled that left handed specialist role with taylor tankersley 7.5 ERA last year coming off of surgery in 09

gonna be a long year IMO

gonna be bad

long term hopefully it will pay off. but yeah, i dont see the need to overspend now for a team that probably wins 75-80 games

dunno i see it as though, the team has so many needs why waste the money on a left handed specialist?

that is like the bottom of the list of the teams needs.

Meh, I don't see what's wrong with getting a lefty specialist as it's nice when you can actually find a good one.

Phillies have several good lefties, though it's not liking we're going to be able to compete with this this year, just saying.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. They signed Tankersley to a minor league deal. They aren't wasting any money at all. They basically haven't done anything this offseason and I like that.
