is it almost spring training yet? its so sick that no matter what i will always love the mets. im a huge mets and jets fan but for some weird reason if i hadta pick a team to see win a championship and i was told one will win this year and the other will never win ever i wud easily want the mets to win it all. on a whole im much more into football but i love no sports team more than my mets. im 22 years old and i actually drove 1 hour fromnorth nj 5 times this year alone to see the mets play all by myself. i cannot wait until this franchised gets turned around. ever since idolizing todd hundley as a little leaguer the mets have always held a special place in my heart. i was probably th eonly mets fan who was devastated when we got piazza cuz i knwe it was the end of a mets career for a beloved met...im done rambling now, just some winter time baseball withdraw rant...have a nice day guys

lol Mike just tore apart the Mets for like an hour. I really don't like Francesa at all, but it was still pretty humerous. I saw both sides of the arguement though.

Yes Sandy did say the Mets would be competitive this year, and yes there is no chance the current team plus scrubs minus a lot of Johan is going to be competitive, but still. Who were the Mets going to go out and get? I can see a case being made for trying to trade for Marcum, but they weren't signing Werth no matter what. Maybe go after Crawford though.

Francesa really seems to hate Sandy and Depo, he want after them HARD.

I have absolutely no problem with how the Mets are handling this offseason. The Mets cut my pops season tickets from 2009 (he did not renew in 2010) by 75% no matter how bad they are that will probably get us back in the stadium at that price.

His opening today was horrendous. It was a meaningless rant on a plan that anyone with a pea-sized brain knew the Mets would execute. They're not going after this years big FA...we all know that...and 99.999% of logical Mets fans understand that and are ok with it.

It was classic "tweak the Mets fans" Mike. I shut if off before the first hour was over.

So they said they would make every attempt to compete in 2011, and now it's becoming clear they will spend very little...so what? Not even the Pirates admit they're rebuilding.

When I was home for Thanksgiving listening to Mike was a fresh of breath air. Myrtle Beach sports radio is worse than Philly. Its unbelievable.

Not really true, many small market teams admit they are rebuilding. The Royals admit it often and the last such instance is what made Greinke say he wanted out and why he will definitely be traded. It is kind of weak to give the "we're gonna fight hard" speech that Alderson gave and then not spend any money in the off-season. What you could say, if you plan to not spend any money on players but still don't want to admit you're in a rebuilding phase is just that the team is ready to compete as is if everyone gets back to 100% health and ability, which he didn't really say. FWIW, it's not even so unrealistic either. If Reyes, Bay, Beltran (assuming he doesn't get traded), and Santana can get back to their elite levels or something close to it, the Mets could very easily surprise people this year. That is not the angle the new regime took though, and that is what I think Francesa was addressing.

let me go on record as saying i love Jose Reyes... but i dont want to give him even close to a Carl Crawford like contract.

lol Jose Reyes has done nothing to even deserve half of the contract Crawford got. As a fan I hope he gets something along the lines of 5 years 65 million.

It's Mike being mike... What else is there to talk about besides the Yankees willing to suck Lee's schlong and give him 7/150....

He's completely off base, but that's Francessa.

Will the team make the playoffs in 11? Probably not... they may finish just a bit above where they finished this year, or they may actually be a game or two over .500...

Sandy is right though, the team does have a decent 9 to compete... Wright/Reyes/Bay/Ike/Pagan/Beltran... that's really not bad at all at 80% healthy...

The pitching and bullpen will determine, imo, if this team can compete at all in the East, or compete for atleast .500.

And although I absolutely love Reyes, I'd be shocked to see him get anything more than 3-4 years at 15/y from Sandy and Co.

How much does the Jeter contract affect it?

I don't think the jeter contract will have much to do with it since it's agreed that its an anomaly because of jeter's aura/whatever. The tulowitski contract is probably going to be something that's going to hurt the mets though, I think. It's around 15/y I think?

To be fair, this is what we should be doing imo since we can't afford to add payroll without moving some off. Taking small chances on cheap pitchers with upside is probably a decent way to go imo.

I'm fine with what Mets are doing, have bad contracts that come off this year just gonna have to ride this one out.

as a mets fan it makes me laugh he told the yankees to **** off.

as a mets fan it makes me cry that he signed with philly and their aces get to take turns striking out 12 a game against us multiple times this year.

this. i know its more or less unexeptable in new york sports but wether or not you like it, and wether or not the mets say it, we are rebuilding. we arent the yankes and we dont have the money to go out and buy new players to replace old or useless ones. i actually am ok with what is goin on. although i really wish they wud just come out and say that that is wut is happening.

we have some good young talent, we need some pitchers and if we r rebuilding we need to square up some of the contracts of the bigger players, or move on and trade them for young talent.

call me crazy but if im moving anyone its wright. its prety clear to see that as reyes goes, the mets go. i think moving him would b a big mistake. same with ike. also i would just plain rather have reyes there. wright is a somewhat soft guy who doesnt seem to cope well with pressure or critics and would probaly be better off out of new york.( if you dont remember he wont speak with or go on fransesa show ever because mike once called him soft and it angered him a great deal). and guys like that arent made for the big apple

well one nice thing is that alderson has said castillo and ollie must earn an opening day spot, or they will not be on the team

ollie has been awful in winter games, so it looks like his time as a met, and perhaps in the majors, is over
