Fortunately this is probably the end of the Mets wasting their money on guys who are "past their prime" (Carlos Beltran)", or are "over-rated glamour players (Jason Bay)", or my personal favorite of spending money for the sake of spending money so omg it doesn't look like we aren't stay competitive (Oliver Perez) so it can't be a bad thing. But if they had gotten these guys years ago before people realized getting on base was a good thing our team with a real payroll would have been NL Champion favorites for a decade.

BTW Reyes and Wright according to the new smart person world order are two of the most over-rated players in the game. Their UZR's are disasters. Strong possibility neither of these guys are with us in a few years when the team is ready to win? Or do they concede and keep these guys (especially Wright) to appease the fans?
You make it sound like the Beltran and Bay contracts were terrible or something. The jury is still out on Bay but Beltran had 3 amazing years before he got hurt and was 28 when he signed his deal. Hard to say he was "past his prime".

And both Wright and Reyes are still top 10 at their respective positions including their defense, don't forget offense is just more valuable. Also the numbers are misleading since Reyes' career UZR actually yields a positive expectation and it's only the past couple years that it's been bad and it's very likely due to him playing hurt. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a nice rebound going forward.

Agame ITT... +1

Bay could come back and have a monster year... Who knows.. Do I like the signing? Jury still out on that too, but he's still top 15-20 in the game for his position... Lineup for next year?

Reyes
Pagan
Beltran
Bay
Wright
Davis
Thole
Murphy/2b
Pitcher

Thoughts?

I want Beltran shopped, but i doubt there is a market, so he will probably be here. the market sucks this offseason, no point giving Crawford or Werth $15+ a year, and Lee isnt coming. Beyond that, all i want Sandy to do is fix that piece of **** bullpen, look into a 2/3 starter on the market (Kuroda for 2 years preferably, or DeLaRosa/Vazquez if the money is right)

I'd love to see Murphy succeed at 2nd, but ultimately i doubt it will work out. Hopefully his D will be servicable enough that he can be our top guy off the bench. They need to find a defensive 2nd baseman with some pop. I dont want Tejada starting OD.

Honestly, our projected lineup doesnt worry me at all, and i dont understand why people are down on it. Healthy Beltran, Healthy Bay, Ike and Thole hopefully improving, that's a pretty damn good lineup.

The Starting pitching scares me, if only b/c I dont expect Dickey to be as good as he was, and I think Pelf and Niese are too prone to blowups, I'd love them as our 4-5, not our 2-3. Also, I'm fully expecting the Johan injury to get steadily worse as the days pass. Dillon Gee is not a good major league starter, i hope they dont think he was as good as he was down the stretch

Depo hired. We actually have a front office. Went from Omar, Ricco and Tony Bernazard to Alderson, Depodesta and Ricciardi.

i really really hope not. i know this will sound nuts, but if you really think about it, murphy cannot hit a lick, and his fielding is also very sub par. if you plan on putting him at second and cutting castillo and eating the money, you mite as well just keep castillo at second, because honestly do you really get that much more out of murphy than you would out of castillo.

i know people will aruge murhpy has more potential wich he obv does but castillo will hit 275+ get on base and even tho hes gotten old and lost some range still probably has more than murphy.

now dont get me wrong im not saying castillo for starting 2b, im just saying if the plan is to get rid of louis and start murphy at second why not just keep castillo...anyone agree? and if not tell me why

+ 1 its clear that thats exactly what will happen. at least as far as effort, beltran is exaclty the type who knows that this years cud mean a ton or money, or no offers coming in depending on what he does. so he will do everything in his power to get paid. expect a huge year form him. if anything let him get a hot start here then ship him off if the deal is worth it. otherwise ride him out til the end of the year and let him become someone elses problem

Last edited by loodachris99; 11-17-2010 at 09:21 PM. Reason: hes not really a problem just his attitude is the exact attitude too many mets have and we cant win with that

on the manager front, i think any of the four will be better than jerry but i think collins would be a big mistake. everything ive read shows that major leaguers do not like him, he is a tinkerer, and not good with the media. these are all big things for this team. as for hale, i like him but i guess id prefer somebody who wasnt part of the last year managing this team going forward. id prefer backman of the four but it almost feels like the other three just dont get me excited at all and given that the only moves that they might make that could get fans excited are probably dumping ollie and castillo, it seems like it should be important to get the fans excited about something. next year maybe a dead year where they just rebuild but in order for fans to accept that they need something and a manager that inspires something when you see him interviewed after every game and at least gets these players to play hard for 162 games, something that hasnt seemed to happen in a few years.

Manager not a big deal it never has been to Alderson.

They should accept it as a rebuilding year

Get rid of the following players (if they haven't already)
Perez
Castillo
Francoeur
Cora
Blanco
Carter
Jesus Feliciano
Titties
Hessman
Catalanotto

Players that should be left over from last season's team imo:

C - ? (prob end up being Thole)
1B - Davis
2B - ? (FA)
3B - Wright
SS - Reyes
LF - Bay
CF - Pagan
RF - Beltran

SP - Santana
SP - Dickey
SP - Pelfrey
SP - ?
SP - ?

RP - Just get rid of most of them. They're garbage.

Gotta bring up FMart and start getting him in as a spot starter in the outfield or trade Beltran while he has any semblance of value and start FMart full time.

Beltran is going to have a big year playing for his last contract. Keep him the whole season and get the first round pick compensation.

your right its not however, i honestly would have preffered a different gm and hired bobby v back. he literally took a very very average team to the world series, they had 1 start mike piazza and not very great pitching. plus hes just the kind of guy most new yorkers like!

Was in Korea. Heading to China soon and will likely miss the Mets for the rest of well...forever.

Haven't been paying much attention to the Mets due to outright frustration with the team.

But like a battered wife, I keep coming back for more.
