There are going to have to major changes to the starting pitching if we're going to have a chance.

No santana for a big chunk of next season, maine is done for as far as I'm concerned, lollie sucks, don't know how we can expect a repeat performance from dickey, etc.

I keep thinking the hitting will be fine, as I do most years, and I don't see why this should change next season, so most of the attention needs to go to pitching.

I think we have something like $130M in commitments next season and with the appeal of Citi wearing off, pretty sure we're not going to have much flexibility this offseason.

This team won't be better next year but at least we won't have Castillo and LOLlie taking up valuable roster spots. The Mets will have to DFA them and eat their salaries.

When the new gm comes in, what are the odds of the mets going into rebuild mode and sell wright, reyes.. ?

I think they go into rebuild mode but keep Wright & Reyes. Castillo and Perez will be released with the Mets eating their remaining salaries. I wouldn't be surprised to see the new GM trade Beltran (assuming Beltran wavies his NTC). Mets will wind up eating most of that salary too.

Don't know what you do with K-Rod. Because they'll be eating all that salary for Castillo, Perez and Beltran I think the biggest move they make this offseason is resigning Dickey and maybe Feliciano.

Ok cool thanks, I listen time to time to wfan, as we get that in Toronto during the night, but dont get reception during the day and have heard various things from wfan about the mets.

Must be nice to know that omar will be gone, lol!

I'm not sure about Krod, a lot will probably depend on if they can withstand the grievance and uphold his contract being converted to non-guaranteed. This might be the only chance they get before his option in the final year of the deal for ~17M, though I think that is a club option.

Wilpon speaks with Burkhardt

Quote:
Asked about Omar Minaya’s autonomy and the decision making process, Wilpon said:

“Omar would talk about everything, and then we approved his decisions…He had total autonomy…I didn’t know half those guys existed…We deserve the hit, because we made poor choices on how we spent the money.”
Quote:
Asked if the Mets need a big name general manager going forward to say ‘we mean business’, Wilpon said:

“The whole organizational culture, when you bring a GM in, is going to change the fan’s outlook…if that’s a good direction that everyone, the fan base can buy into, I think you don’t necessarily need a name guy…if a name guy comes with that, that’s great, but looking at it that way is shortsighted.”
Quote:
Asked if he felt the Mets could still win with their core group of players, Wilpon said:

“I do, but again, its not me, its the new GM with a fresh perspective and we need to re-invigorate the franchise and put a new manager in…we have t put calue back on the field so the fans come back out to Citi Field.”
wow he kinda said everything i wanted to hear

They'll get bashed over it because that's how these things work, but I thought the Wilpons had a good press conference today. It was a good sign that Fred cared enough to show up, considering how much he has removed himself from day-to-day operations, and he sounded genuine to me that he really wanted to win and turn things around, and that they were willing to listen to whatever plan a new GM might have.

Obviously most of what was said will sound cliché, because that's how press conferences work, but I thought it was a good way to begin a new era.

Nearly every caller to the FAN after the presser was bashing them for the press conference itself.

They already announced it's going down (obviously), but who knows how much.

I don't think it's going to make a difference as we probably won't be competing in the middle of the summer and attendance will be low the last several months of the season.

from 2005-2008 I went to about 25 games per year. In 2009, didn't go as much but still managed about 15. This year I went to 3 and it's because people gave me tickets they did not want for free. I will probably get to more Islanders game this season than that. I will probably go to 0 Mets games next year, and only will decide to go if they are competitive after the ASB
