I read that Murphy is supposed to be in the projected lineup tomorrow. Hopefully that doesn't change and they let the kid play through this mistake. Road trip had some good signs, such as the pen and the hitting.

I think it's Omar, and not that close. I mean, she climed into a pit of huge polar bears.

I'm willing to listen to counter arguments however.

Murphy, following the game, said:

“Inexcusable… Johan threw the ball really well and deserved a lot better than that. I’m better than that. It won’t happen like that again. I was lazy to the ball and I got exposed for it. I didn’t get back. I got exposed, and it cost us.”

I like that. Kid holds himself accountable. Apology accepted. Dont let it happen again

I am a Daniel Murphy fan. He has the plate discipline of a 10 year vet and is modest enough to accept responsibility for his actions.

If Omar trades this guy, I think it might be sufficient grounds for him being fired. Murphy is just too good.

Wow, I cannot believe how many people have gotten on Murphy.
Most people knew that he could not play the field all that well.
I will take the trade off of a great stick for a poor glove any day.

I almost feel bad for the people going to the home opener tonight.
Its going to get brrrr cold...lol

To the guys who do go, please post a trip report.

So far, Murphy has done well.
I do not have that big a problem with the error yesterday.

Only people that I am immune to getting mad at are Piazza and Heilman. The first is ldo(italian-american ftw!) and the second is because the son of a bitch hurt me so much in the past that it just didn't hurt anymore after a while.

If Chavez didn't fail so hard after the catch he would be on that list too.

No one should be getting on Murphy. If we want to complain about something yesterday we should complain about this:

Castillo tried to bunt for a base hit with the pitcher's spot due up next, a good baserunner on second (Church), with one out and down two runs late. It was an idiotic move. All he had to do was hit it past an infielder to score a run. I know that's difficult for him but bunting in that spot surely doesn't give him a chance to do that.

Gary Cohen said during the broadcast Saturday night that Casillo had better do something in this series or the fans would get on him tonight. Lets see if they do.

Sad news, Harry Kalas, the great Phillies broadcaster, is reported to have passed out in the booth before today's game and was taken to the hospital. Phils president David Montgomery was quoted as saying he thinks it's serious. Hate the Phillies, but love Harry Kalas.

Edit -- well, apparently, it was serious, as Harry died. Jesus. Wow.

Sad day indeed.
He had one of the best voices in all of sports.
I enjoyed listening to him doing NFL games and highlight films.

LOL @ Murphy having a great stick. Please. He might end up being decent, but there is no way the NY Mets should have Daniel Murphy as a starting OF.

I disagree. His offense easily justifies any deficiencies he might have as a left-fielder. Besides, I doubt he'll he much below average defensively by the end of the year.

Anyone know what tonight's schedule is, and when the game is actually supposed to start?

Excellent question.
My brother in law and I discussed this last night over Easter dessert.
He thinks the game will probably start sometime before 8:00.

The game has a 7:10 start.

Padres-Mets Preview
Shea Stadium was the site of some wonderful moments in the history of the New York Mets and will be remembered fondly by many. The way their last two seasons ended, however, has the Mets focused on new beginnings. After calling Shea their home for the past 44 years, the Mets play the first meaningful game at Citi Field - their new $800 million home - on Monday night with the first of three straight against the San Diego Padres. World championships in 1969 and 1986 highlighted the Mets' stay at since-demolished Shea Stadium, the team's home since 1964 after they played their first two seasons at the old Polo Grounds
