Wow, I haven't felt the need to read this thread in weeks, but I had to come here after hearing about that news conference.

What a mess, yet I can't look away.

This is great for comic relief.

Something smells fishy with these Adam Rubin comments.

So he says he's asked Omar and asked around the organization about how to get a job in baseball, but when Jeff Wilpon invites him to a sit-down lunch to discuss how to get a job in baseball, he turns him down? I don't think so.

We'll never know the whole truth, but my guess is: Adam covered the team and tried to leverage his access to get a job with the Mets. Mets rebuff his advances. Adam takes his shots at Bernazard. Mets fire back with today's presser.

LMAO. This is ****ing hysterical. I really hope this is the last strike for Minaya.

You figure Omar can't make it any worse, yet he makes it worse.

Please get rid of this buffoon already.

Joel Sherman had a really good article about Omar's reign of terrible in the Post yesterday. You should read it.

I think we'll find out more now as Rubin is on the fan and sny. He probably can't cover the team anymore and who knows about his job now.

It seems he was just inquiring about 'how to get in the business' in general.

This is just dirty by minaya, absolutely unreal.

Why assume that Rubin is the one telling the truth here?

I'm more inclined to believe that both parties are dirty.

Good point Jordan and wynton, we'll never really know what really happened, but still...just stupid and cheap

Yeah, both are coming off a little scummy IMO.

And sorry for the Ninja edit there on you Suigin...just elaborated on my thoughts.

One more comment I'll make, and this is without even hearing any of the comments myself: if Omaya is telling the truth about Rubin, it still seems pretty ridiculous for him to make those comments publicly. From a distance, it looks like Minaya merely wanted to make Rubin pay out of spite. And it's pretty hard to win a battle with the press, whether one deserves to or not.

To me Minaya is coming off dirty and Rubin is coming off as someone who may have spit off a sidewalk and parked his car the wrong way on the street once.

It did seem clear before the conference Rubin was ridiculously happy that Bernazard was fired. I noticed it struck me as odd with the whole dancing on his grave comment. But I think what it comes down to is Tony Bernazard was a huge *******, and everyone including reporters hated the guy, perhaps rubin to a bit of an extreme but who could blame him? Bernazard is Omar's friend so that makes Rubin Omar's enemy.

I can picture the convo....

Omar: Im sorry Tony I gotta let you go, this story in the paperes, these damn kid reporties Im sorrty homey but i got no choice
Tony: yes i know bud i hate that ****ign kid reporter i just wanna tear my shirt off and fight him
Omar: dont worry bud, he will pay, he will pay
Omar and Tony: muhhahahahahaahahahaah!

While both might be scummy, Rubin was, at least somewhat, within his job breaking the bernazard story, which he was correct on. It might have an effect on the relationship with the team and writers, but not a big one as minaya would have to be on drugs to attack a writer again.

Way to offend the media though

I think I actually will make an attempt to watch the beginning of tonight's game solely to see what Cohen et al say (probably not much).

They won't say **** because the SNY crew doesn't have free reign to criticize the organization. I wodner if Cohen regrets leaving WFAN.

Rubin was completely within his right to break the Bernazard story. Its part of being a writer. This is almost as embarrassing for Omar as Gundy going after the newspaper.

You know what, Pyramid: I bet that they do talk about it a little. My prediction is that they make kind of neutral comments, to the effect of the situation being "unusual," but without casting any kind of judgment.

I don't think the question is whether he's within his rights to break the story. I guess the questions on his side are what his journalistic ethics may be while he's covering a team that he may also be trying to gain employment with.

Overall, just a stupid situation. Let's win some games please so this goes away.

Sure, he's within his rights, but it doesn't mean he wasn't being scummy too, or that he didn't have ulterior motives.

This reminds me of the whispers I used to hear about Michael Kay, trying to get his current announcing gig by writing positive stuff about Steinbrenner (during a time when most were more critical). When this kind of thing happens, it's fair to question the writers' integrity.

Yay conspiracy theories:

So Rubin says he only spoke to jeff wilpin, so perhaps wilpin leaked it to minaya to smash Rubin as revenge.

This gets better and better

I am 100% on Rubin's side in this whole mess. like i seriously doubt this Mets franchise is even real right now.

oh and for all of you saying that Minaya did this. doubt thats real too - this came from the ownership and minaya was just their pawn. so no, minaya will not be fired anytime in the near future.

Meh, I had a long post typed out about how I felt about it, but its not a big deal. Lets just hope this lead to minaya's downfall.
