I have to take you to task on this one. When did they ever make this public knowledge?

I don't remember that. And if they did they are clearly ******ed (not that we didn't already know that).

by annoting him the everyday left fielder over Church who was putting up all star numbers before his injuries last year, yes they are saying that.

I'm saying that these expectations of hitting over 300 with 25 dingers is a lot different than the .275, 20 homer predictions most people (including yourself) had at the beginning of the year. And at some point over the course of the first two months of this season a lot of Mets fans expectations got raised to much higher. Probably because Murphy started out hot.

IMO, everyone needs to step back and rethink what they thought Murphy would do at the begging of the year and they'll see he's probably on pace to do something closer to that.

Murphy cannot be a left fielder or first basemen with a 270 average and 15 home runs.

Gotcha.
I also agree with all of the above.

the point is that daniel murphy walks a lot more than most players and if he can draw 80 walks a season and hit 30-40 doubles he'll still be a decent asset. the notion that he has to hit .320 with 25 HRs is absurd.

Murphy has a very good eye, although we have not seen it lately. So point well taken, he will get his fair share of walks and that gets him on base.

well his 4 doubles through his first 115 AB's dosn't make 30-40 seem too promising.

Your problem is that you are expecting him to put up his peak numbers when he's only 24 and has only had about 300 MLB at bats. Someday maybe Murphy will hit 25 homers or 40 doubles with a .300+ average, but expecting him to do it this year is pretty ridiculous.

you say that he's only 24 like it hasn't been done before. The Mets made him out to be the Golden boy, he's partly the reason why they did not aggressively pursue Manny.

murphy has actually improved in my eyes this year. his bb% is down a tad, but so are his strikeouts. in nearly as many plate appearances (150 last year 131 as of date) murphys K% has dropped from 21.4 to 9.6. thats pretty dam good, and his minor league numbers kinda suggest that he should have a good k/bb rate. also murphys babip was .386 (lucky), this year its .270(unlucky). all signs just point to a slump. he may never be a .320/.400/.500 hitter, but i dont see why .290/.350/.460 is unreasonable

Are you listening to yourself? You honestly expected Daniel Murphy to come in with all of his 150 at-bats prior to 2009 and be an All Star? Fact is the vast majority of baseball players have their best years somewhere between 25 and 30 years old. Murphy isn't there yet and doesn't even come close to having a full year worth of major league level at bats to back him up either.

...and I think there are 45 million other reasons (to be exact) the Mets didn't aggressively pursue Manny.

haha, I knew met fans would expect too much from murphy, might be reading too much into his patience at the plate and general demeanor and thinking he was the next big thing after seeing some of that stuff on espn. Calling him "positionless" is a bit rough though, no? If he can walk a good deal from the 2 spot, or wherever he is, and avoid some of the glaring mistakes in the field, which he will, he should be OK. Also, somebody needs to teach him how to bunt,

Unlike with other prospects, Murphy wasn't hyped by the organization. They didn't go after manny primarily because of the $$$ (>2 years) and headaches involved, not because they thought he would block daniel ****ing murphy.

I'm not great with projections, but like I said above, if he walks enough and keeps a decent average, 280ish, I would be pretty happy with that. 15-20 hr would be sweet too.
