New York Mets: We ****ing Quit New York Mets: We ****ing Quit

The team itself is fairly likable, but management/ownership are the worst.

I’m hopeful the Mets can make a run but they are feasting on trash teams.

This team may need to win it all to get the stink of Diaz/Cano off Brodie. It's almost as if both prospects could completely bust at this point and the Mets lost this trade simply by having the presence of these guys on their roster.

Would love to hear the defense of Callaways decision-making tonight.

The part where he put his best reliever in to face the middle of the lineup in the 7th? That’s the kind of progressive move a lot of old school managers are still too afraid to make. I absolutely applaud that move despite the results, which more a matter of everything just dropping in than Lugo getting hammered. Hope he keeps managing that way.

Care to explain why he batted Matz in the top of the 7th to not pitch him in the bottom of the inning?? despite having retired 14 in a row and only at 79 pitches...

He’s an idiot making it up as he goes. Anyone defending him is equally lol.

It was a long inning and Matz had to run the bases. Also, did you happen to see the three rockets Matz gave up to his last three batters, all of which were caught by outfielders. Glad Mickey can still think outside the box when Brodie allows it and not be results oriented. Can't always expect casual fans to really understand all this though. He may get roasted by the talking heads looking for ratings, but surprisingly, even Darling backed him.

Your explanation was idiotic in so many ways.

Lol causal fans. Fans want a manager who has a clue, and any halfway intelligent baseball fan can see Mickey is a moron who’s in over his head.

You go down with that ship though.

You asked for explanations which were given.

Your response is that the explanations were idiotic in so many ways (and have thrown that word around without support several times) yet fail to provide even one. Or why you would want the #5 starter to be protecting a one run lead against the middle of the order for the first place team in an important game.

And you’ve used “lol” as an argument twice, a classic sign that someone doesn’t really understand something. It’s difficult to take seriously. I’d be glad to listen when your vocabulary increases beyond lol and idiot and includes something of substance.

In the meantime...Go Mickey!!

He also took out Davis in the same move.

He's an idiot.

Taking a pitcher out of the game Bc he ran for a few seconds is idiotic. Old school idiocy if you will. Steven Matz is a professional athlete in great shape. The idea that running the bases will negatively affect his pitching is absurd.

And yes, Lugo is the Mets best RP. But they needed to get NINE more outs. Even if Lugo went 6 (Not ideal) you still need to get three more. I’d have much more confidence in Matz on a night he’s dealing than a headcase like Diaz.

Callaway has no clue. The season is a marathon, not a sprint. They can’t bring Lugo into every game. When one of your starters has pitched 6 great innings, has retired 14 in a row and is at 79 pitches, you let him go out there for another inning. Callaway had this idea in the top of the inning when he let Matz hit and then changed his mind. Bc he’s a moron and a terrible manager.

This is a more rationale argument. I don’t think he would have pulled his other starters there, but Matz has allowed 17 HRs to RHBs (tied for 14th most). In the bottom of the last inning his three outs were...

Lineout 100.3 mph exit velocity
Lineout 96.1 mph exit velocity
Lineout 107.2 mph exit velocity

All three of these batted balls had an 40%+ hit expectation according to Statcast.

Can certainly see why Mickey didn’t want him facing middle of the order with a one run lead. Plan was probably Lugo for two while hoping Mets could tack on a run or two against a terrible Atlanta pen too. Have a lefty face Freeman and hope whoever has a few runs to work with in 9th. Maybe even have a lefty throw the 9th with Freeman hitting if they’re up more than one. Perfectly reasonable.

Davis is a little more sketchy but may not even get another AB and if he does it means Mets maybe scored again anyway. He’s a pretty terrible OFer though.

Fair point on the exit velocity. But you’re giving Callaway way too much credit. He said he’d have pitched Matz in the bottom of the 7th had it still been 1-0.

Look the Mets lose either way in my scenario Bc Lugo would have to get some outs and he clearly didn’t have it last night. I’m just sick of Callaway. I can’t understand anyone defending him.

For a team that's had some dumb losses, that one is right near the worst.

Someone take the whole damn bullpen to the East River. Diaz first.

The same team is going to have the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year in both leagues. One of them is the best team in baseball. The other is the Astros.
