Also what do you guys consider to be the worst that could happen in the offseason next year? Say LBJ stays in CLE, what's the least you guys could come out of it with?

I don't know, disaster seems likely. I don't think they'll get LeBron, Wade, or Bosh. I think Amar'e is the most likely candidate. Which is cool, but Amar'e plus a mid-level FA isn't a title contender. I'm just gonna root for Brooklyn I'm pretty sure. Jay-Z is the man anyway.

I think overpaying for 2 midlevel free agents like the pistons did this offseason and not re-signing lee would be a pretty huge failure. Ideally they're able to dump curry or jeffries as their contracts become a year closer to completion also.

Ideally they would, but that's like saying ideally they'll talk Wade and LeBron into taking less money and cashing in on endorsements to play together. Neither have any realistic chance of happening.

Whenever my friends and I talk about the Knicks future offseason, we always say that.

"Man, if I were a high level FA, I would take less money to play with a stud like Lebron and just win 5+ championships. That's worth more then the 3 million each year I would make!"

But Jared Jeffries can make threes and free throws now! He's 6-10 and can guard 4 positions!!!!! Eddy Curry averaged 19 points 2 years ago!!!! You can't teach awesome and those 2 have got it.

I didn't think Walsh would be able to shed as much cap room as he did in his first year unloading Randolph, Crawford, and James. And for as much as I hated Harrington on IND/GS he has really been a pleasant surprise as far as putting his talent together and leadership. I don't think it's too far fetched to think Walsh could swindle another GM especially if either of the two bums put together a small streak of good play

Teams didn't realize how bad the cap would be going forward when they made those trades last year. With Jeffries current contract, it will not be possible to trade him. He just isn't good enough to make a team thing he can take them over the hump. In fact, he isn't good at all and is pretty close to completely awful.

I'm pretty sure we're not gonna be able to get a big FA in 2010. If anyone, it's gonna be Amare who I'm not sure is deserving of 30% of the cap. We might not be able to get any of the 2011 FAs, either. I think our "2010 plan" might end up being "Take 5 years to rebuild through the draft" Plan

WTF?

How did we go from being ready to get 2 big free agents in 2010 to now getting none? How did that happen? Did the cap shrink that much? If so, won't that hurt everyone's chances of getting LBJ?

I know we have a little less cap space than initially thought, but I don't think that will preclude us from being big players in FA the next couple of years.

I know he's lazy on defense (not necessarily bad at it), but I would think amare is still worth a max contract.

We were never getting 2 BIG free agents to begin with. Just 1 max/near-max guy and another smaller guy.

I'm coming to the soul-crushing realization that LBJ probably won't leave Cleveland. Pretty much anything written in the media about it happening is just pure speculation. The only indication he's made that he wants to come to the Knicks is that he wore a Yankees hat to an Indians game a few years ago. All other signs point to him staying put.

If Wade is leaving Miami, it's because Miami isn't a contender. He wouldn't leave them to come to the Knicks' ****ty supporting cast

Bottom line is, a Max-contract free agent won't want to come here if we aren't competitive. And by definition, having that max contract on our payroll prevents us providing an adequate supporting cast.

Everyone but Cleveland's. They can give him more than the 30% of the cap that all other teams can.

I think it's OK to get Stoudemire, and then build through the draft. They'll be able to spend the Jeffries/Curry money in 2011 to give him a little help. Gallinari should be good by then also. They aren't winning a championship any time soon, but whatever. All Walsh can do is make the best moves possible. This is why a salary cap is stupid. New York is a huge market and them being contenders is good for the entire league. They should be able to sign some top FAs regardless.

Well, we won the last 4 preseason games. This clearly means we are contenders.

Lee looked like he hasn't missed a beat since last season. At least I have that to look forward to. I think I like starting Chandler at SG and leaving Hughes out of the rotation all together. Chandler in the backcourt gives us a nice size advantage over most other guards.

I think the best lineup the Knicks can put on the court this year is:

Nate
Chandler
Harrington
Lee
Darko

Hopefully Hill can replace Darko there sooner rather than later. Jeffries has also played well in the preseason.
