I can't wait for this to be over one way or another.

I really don't know why Carmelo wouldn't just be quiet and go to the Knicks as a F/A if New York is really where he wants to be. If it is money, i am sure he could make most of it back in endorsements being in New York. If he just waits he is going to have a much better chance at winning, whether that would be using the pieces they would have used to trade for him to trade for Chris Paul or Darren Williams or just keeping those other players(Felton, Gallo, etc) and have better support around him.

The endorsement part is overblown. 20 million or so over 3-4 years is a huge chunk of cash.

He is really doing everything he can from a strategy standpoint to get to the Knicks via trade, if it doesn't end up going down and he takes the money you really cannot blame him.

Carmelo said he's going to sign the extension unless the Knicks can work out a trade. If the reports are true that the Nuggets wanted to trade with the Nets the whole time because they <3 Favors, wouldn't the Nuggets just say no to pretty much anything the Knicks offer them, unless it was some crazy offer?

It's hard to say with the impending lock out coming, but if things stay the same he'd make the same money with the Knicks anyway since they'd still end up getting him via S&T. They won't have to give up nearly as much if they do it that way though because then Denver has no leverage at all really.

So reports saying the offer is now gallo, Felton, Chandler, curry, 1st (Randolph).

I think that is the limit I'd want to give up as a fan but I would definitely do that deal.

It really all comes down to what Carmelo tells/told them when they meet. For all we know he might say "Don't worry, I'm coming this summer." He'll probably say, "I need to get paid now so if you don't do a trade I'll have to extend with the Nets."

If that's the case, and Billups is involved, I wouldn't have a problem with this trade.

Gallinari/Felton/Chandler seems like a little much but they still keep their two best players and would be in much better shape for the future building around 3 stars and Billups so it'd be hard to not get excited.

Yeah, I mean for evaluations of offers/trades with this I am just going to assume Melo hasn't assured NY that he would be there in the summer. I don't think it is that big of an assumption, but an assumption nonetheless.

You always have to figure that two of Fields/Gallo/Chandler are going to be involved in any NYK deal for Melo. Fields >>>>> the other two in pretty much all regards. Especially when taking into account cap ramifications and fit with a Melo/STAT team. And that is ignoring the fact that he is a better player and a better asset.

Chandler is a nice player but I don't want to give him whatever I'd expect some team would throw at him. I am going into this trade scenario with the belief that Chandler would sign somewhere else after the year. That may not be true, but just my opinion of what should happen and what I'd expect. So involving him in the trade as one of the two is important, tenfold if you don't want to pay him 6-8 million a year and tie up that space.

Everyone loves Gallo (to varying degrees of irrationality), but he is less valuable on a Melo team and he does have a bad back and issues with playing the 2 and 4. He will also need to be paid in 2012 (I think), which looks to be the next window for the Knicks to attempt to get another top piece in the open market.

I don't want to lose Felton but you can't break the deal over him. Billups also becomes a valuable trade asset next year (?) or can be bought out.

I would also like to keep Mozgov as well.

So it is a strong offer from the Knicks but it is also the kind of offer they should be making in this trade. Keeping Fields would be huge, and tut can correct me if wrong (haven't looked at any numbers), but this deal seems to be one that would at least leave the Knicks some wiggle room $ wise in 2012ish.

Agree with all of the above. The biggest issue I have is I really don't want to give up fields in this trade. If Melo comes without trading Gallo, the italian has to take a bench role or play out of position and that wouldn't really help much. At least if Fields stays you can start both of them.

meh "starting" is overrated especially on the knicks

sans felton/amare/mozgov/turiaf the knicks really don't have "positions" they just have a bunch of wings lol

for instance gallo is getting like 34 mpg and chandler "coming off the bench" is getting 32 mpg

i see no reason why gallo couldn't get 32-34 mpg on a team with melo

i also don't see why having melo would hurt gallo a ton. gallo has improved a ton wrt driving/creating this year but he also would have a ton of value keeping double teams away from melo on the perimeter

i love gallo i really hope we don't trade him and can somehow convince denver to take chandler instead

they are getting both of them. the trade won't happen without 2 of the 3---chandler is a definite, and the reports said NY told denver to take their pick of Fields/Gallo---and they like Gallo better.

Who are the 3 stars and Billups they'd be building around? I count 2.

I don't like the deal because I think Felton could be the Knicks pg for the next 5-10 yrs and Billups is old and could be gone at the end of the year. I think Chris Paul is a super longshot and if we make this deal I see us scrambling for a pg again real soon.

I say gamble, if Melo decides to lock up the money and go somewhere else, then let him go. I just don't see how this makes us better for the future.

Why is chris Paul a long shot ?

I'd really rather have
Cp3
Fields
Gallanari
Amare
Marc Gasol

Defensively is the issue. Melo is going to play 35-38 minutes a night and for Gallo to play 30+ minutes a game you are going to have a lot of fields-melo-gallo-amare and lol @ that.

Melo is a bad fit, they have a decent young team, with expirings, and major FA market

Sign gasol, then trade felton and some Shiz for cp3

I will be depressed for around 48 hours after the deal goes through if Landry Fields is included. Please don't hack this deal and do something stupid, Dolan. Donnie's health is already shaky; at this rate Dolan is going to give him a heart attack before the season's over.

Its so sickening that this is what is going on behind the scenes. I cannot hate 2 people more than Dolan and Isiah.

The report says, "Thomas is driving everything through owner James Dolan -- the trade for Carmelo Anthony, the departure of (team president) Donnie Walsh, and perhaps even the eventual hiring of the New York Knicks’ next president and general manager."

Earlier this week, Thomas appeared on a Miami radio station and said it wouldn't be right for him to comment on the Anthony negotiations "knowing what I know ."

An NBA executive told Yahoo!, “Isiah is calling the shots for New York. It’s a disgrace. Donnie should walk.”
