tonight would be a tough order, but it would be an extremely impressive win. the 2nd game of a back to back against Utah will be tough.

Knicks to pursue Marc Gasol if no Melo:

What do we think?

I like it, they do need to get Amare back to playing PF. They get killed on the glass by any team with just even a little bit of size.

I'd rather give up less to get Gasol than giving up a Fields/Gallo/Chandler type package for Melo.

Not sure what Gasol's value is though, or how much they'd be looking for. Thoughts?

Don't know much about baby Gasol's game. Can he run the floor at all?

According to that article it's a plan for the offseason when Gasol is a RFA. I'm not completely up on the NBA's RFA rules. Do we have to give something up to make an offer to a RFA?

Yeah, I'd rather be patient right now than sell the farm to get either player. Gasol is good tho.

It's unclear how RFA rules will change with the new CBA. in the current CBA, teams have the option to match any offer sheet their RFA signs. Other teams do not have to give up anything to sign a RFA.

Oh ok, my bad for only glancing at the article.

He would be a great option in the summer and Memphis would have difficulty matching after the Conley contract.

Lets say, Melo still not traded by Feb and refuses to accept deals from Nets or some other teams. Why wouldn't Denver trade him to Knicks for a lot less then premium package they are demanding now? Better to get something then lose him for no comp at all, right? Or i am missing something?

I think that is apart of the thought process. It all comes down to Melo's intention, if it is true he does not want to sign an extension with NJ and he will only sign extension with the Knicks - Denver is in a tough spot and the Knicks are in a good spot. I'd like to keep Fields out of any trade, I would probably be upset if he was traded.

Gasol is solid, he's a good backup plan but at this point he should still be considered just that.

I like beginning to percolate as a title too.............let's request it.

I dunno, a center like Gasol (or something like Vareajo before his injury) to pair with Amare would probably improve the team more than a great wing score like Melo (assuming you'd have to give up more to get Melo).

With Gasol\Amare\Gallo you'll have 3 players on the court who can't create their own shot. Melo on the other hand would take all the pressure from Felton and would make Amare even more leathal...

denvers front office probably doesn't want to be thought of as 'the group that traded 'Melo and got robbed'. especially since Billups came out and said that if Melo is traded he wants his contract bought out. you'd be killing the franchise with the trade. but if he leaves in the offseason, you 'did all you could' to keep him there

15 years ago I used to hate listening to Walt (John Andareise baby!) but he has become a really good color man. Only thing that bugs me is how he always rounds down statistics. For example, he'll say something like "Raymond is averaging 17 points a game" when he is at 17.9. Or tonight he said "Amare is averaging 2 assists per game, 1 over his career high", when Amare is averaging 2.6!
To follow up on this point, last night Frazier said Deron Williams averages 3 rebounds per game (it is really 3.8), and Mike Breen immediately corrected him "actually it's almost 4 per game".

I like "Beginning to Percolate" or "Winning and Grinning" or some combo like "Winning and Grinning Despite Matador D".

That's why Breen is such an awesome complement to Clyde.

Re: Melo/Gasol- I don't think trading depth for either of them will put us over the edge to become a contender. I really think the most +EV move is to sit back, let Curry's contract come off the books, and head into the next CBA with flexibility.

As mentioned before, Gasol would be gotten through free agency. Walsh doesn't have any plans to trade for him.

My bad, was talking more about melo, but whatever.

Here is a list of FAs for 2011 and 12
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/s...eeAgents-11-12

I think there's a chance that UFA thresholds get bumped up in the next CBA, so some UFAs like Perkins might be RFAs instead.

Other enticing names are Chandler and Nene

Probably not a reliable source, but looks like we have a deal in place to send Randolph to the wolves for a pick. KAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNN

You aren't really missing anything, but the odds it gets to that is low because the belief is Melo will sign with the Nets when it comes down to it.

Both sides are posturing right now, but the question becomes if Melo is willing to risk not inking a new deal before the new CBA. There is a lot of rumor about cap lowering, salary scales, etc. Going into a new CBA without a contract is pretty terrifying.
