Yeah it's a fun team with a ****load of flexibility going forward. Getting three rotation guys for Lee makes the Amare signing better too.

I'm excited going into next year. I'm just worried of two things. 1 Copstauche getting fired, 2 the CBA completely ****ing us next summer. Either everyone stays or cap room is significantly cut.

Oh, and agent zero coming scares me.

Vecsey: Donnie Retiring?
By Chris Alvino on Jul 09, 2010, 9:38 am

According to the NY Post, Peter Vecsey believes that Donnie Walsh may be heading towards retirement due to health issues.

Obviously if health is an issue and Donnie decides to hang it up, no one can blame him. I hope he is ok and that his decision does not stem from the LeBron signing. At this point, that is yesterday’s news.

I am not sure if this is true and I will not believe it until it happens (… if it does). A possible replacement mentioned by Vecsey is Kevin Pritchard, formerly of the Blazers. Pritchard is a wheeler and dealer and he re-vamped the Blazer organization.

Again, not sure if this is true or not.

Wow, Chris Sheridan is absolutely delusional...

Dosn't mention the flexibility the Knicks have gained with the cap, the prospects of Parker and Melo having an interest in playing for the Knicks.

Ran into MdA at McCarran last night...overheard him on his cell talking about bringing Ridnour in. Attempted more eavesdropping but failed. Was really unhappy with the Amare signing at first but like getting 3 usable pieces for DLee so it's growing on me a bit. Sigh at me getting optimistic yet again at this stupid ****ing team.

Get well Donald Walsh...but if you must go...+1 to Pritchard plz.

It looks like the Felton deal is official. I can't find any info on the deal, except that the first year salary is rumored to be $7 mil. While I would have preferred Ridnour to a shorter deal, this is fine. Next year's FA PG class sucks, so Felton is much better than nothing.

At this point though, I almost want to hang onto Curry's expiring just so we have a little more flexibility going into the next CBA. Also, it looks like one of our 2nd round picks (Rautins, Fields) might not be signed. We just have too many wings at this point.

PG: Felton, Douglas
Wings: Rooster, Azubuke, Chandler, Walker, Rautins, Fields
Bigs: Amare, Randolph, Turiaf, Jordan, Curry

Aren't Parker, Paul and Deron all FA next year?

Knicks did well. They didn't get LeBron, but that wasn't in their control. They actually have an NBA roster now (and some good character guys, which is nice).

Looking so much better than ye did this time last year. And will be a player in FA again next summer within the known context. Great stuff. Genuine shot at sneaking into the playoffs...

Also, they didn't sign Fields and Rautins yet did they? I hope they don't. Until they are signed they're not part of the roster as they were second round picks

Felton could be a good asset in 1-2 years if they are trying to make a push for a top player trying to get out of his city.

He will get a significant #s bump, plus he will make the team better next year so it's good.

Paul and Deron are signed through 12/13. Next year's FA PG class is basically Parker and no one else.

Knicks can always end up bringing Crawford, Randolph, and Jeffries back next summer.

I'm pretty sure they both have opt out clauses which they obv would take advantage of.

The "wait 2 years in the hopes that a few FAs will opt out and choose us over about 10 other teams" plan is so 2007.

Surely there is value in signing Rautins to a rookie contract given his ability to boom the three? I mean, I don't think he's going to be a great player, but he has to have a decent shot of contributing positively to specific plays and situations? Say, 15 mins a game or so?

Here's who we have under contract for 2011-12, the first year of the new CBA. I estimated the FA salaries as best as I can. Obviously, this assumes that we don't trade Curry's expiring for an upgrade somewhere.

Danilo Gallinari $4,190,182 (team option)
Wilson Chandler $3,099,851 (QO)
Toney Douglas $1,145,640 (team option)
Bill Walker $916,100 (not guaranteed)
Raymond Felton $7,500,000
Anthony Randolph $2,911,231 (team option)
Ronnie Turiaf $4,360,000 (player option)
Amare Stoudemire $16,790,000
James Jordan $1,000,000 (team option)
Rautins/Fields $1,000,000 (team option)

Total: $42,913,004

Assuming Turiaf exercises his option and we don't match Chandler's QO, we can go into next summer with just under $38 mil committed and a roster of:

PG: Felton, Douglas
Wings: Rooster, Walker
Bigs: Amare, Randolph, Turiaf

If we deal Curry for an equal amount of salaries, we'd have about $49 mil committed going into next year. The next CBA will almost certainly remove tons of salary cap flexibility. Unless we get blown away by a trade offer, I think we should hang onto Curry so we have more breathing room going into the next CBA.

If you're not going to extend a QO to Chandler, they should really try hard to trade him. He's a decent young player.

Rumblings that the third year for Felton won't be guaranteed. Don't know how they'd get Felton to sign that deal, but if it is 3 years/21-25 million with the third year a team option than that is a very good deal and I will eat some crow.

Third year team option makes that contract very valuable on the trade market in a couple seasons. Still unsure of the fit but am away from the ledge I was on yesterday when I thought we'd give him 4/40.

Great deal. It's so good to have players to short-term deals. It's also smart for Felton assuming he and his agent were savvy enough to realize his numbers will look great with Amare in this system and he'll get even more paid at the end of this contract.
