obviously this makes complete sense, but how does the expiring contract have value when it belongs to eddy curry? they would have to give up a lot more wouldnt they?

They can trade him at the deadline to a team that is looking to unload some contracts.

In other news, Wilson Chandler got arrested or something with a small amount of pot. Whatever.

im saying in the case of bosh, how is sign/trade receiving eddy curry better than just letting him walk? surely the knicks would have to give someone else up? (someone worthwhile)

We'd probably have to give up Chandler too. If they get Curry, they can unload him at the deadline and get someone else as well. Keep in mind they aren't really trading Bosh. They are just trading his bird rights, which allows us to pay him more.

MJ rumored to be on the cover for NBA 2K11. Of special interest to us is that the further rumor is that they are trying to sign both MJ's teammates and rivals to appear in the game as well.

Playing a season as the 1993 Knicks in a modern basketball game...wow:

Bill Walker reportedly has dropped 10-15lbs so far this offseason. Good news imo.

Also izzo rejecting the Cavs offer really indicates that Lebron is gone. guess its either us or chicago.

Why not? Izzo turning down major money means that he believes that LeBron isnt gonna be there.

Last week, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports quoted a NBA front-office executive with a franchise that has significant salary-cap space this summer, who said “I think all the big free-agent deals will be done by July 1, if not the draft. The NBA would have a cow if [it] knew what’s going on now.”

Also with Kerr out of PHX, Amare is definately outta there. The owner is a cheap bastarrd

Can someone gimme a quick lamens summery of
the knicks situation:

they can sign 2 max, but then they lose D lee
they can sign a MLE after they sign the two big guys, or one big guy and Dlee??

Dlee wouldn't take MLE money ?

The knicks will prob get melo after next season with currys expiring ... Or maybe trade it for someone like who ?

They don't have an MLE because they aren't over the cap. Mid-Level Exception is given to teams that are over the cap already in order to let them sign someone.

David Lee is going to make close to double the MLE anyway.

Carmelo is close to signing a long extension with Denver.

The Knicks put all of their eggs in the LeBron James basket. They might be able to get lucky enough to get Joe Johnson and/or Amare as a consolation prize, but I think even that doubtful.

Donnie Walsh mortgaged their future for a chance at LeBron and it's looking like it's not going work.

They could have kept Jordan Hill and not worried about getting so far under the cap. That first-round pick could have been nice too. Didn't they get this way by losing first round picks? That and making bad draft picks. Lol Andy Rautins btw.

In conclusion:

I wouldn't say they put all of their eggs in the LeBron James basket because they can still come away with a successful summer without signing him. It's not like they are not going to get anyone at all and next year the team is going to be Douglas Gallo and a bunch of randoms.

They did put all of their eggs in this summer though, so they have to pull through with some combo of players to make this team at least a 5 seed

Well I they sign Joe Johnson ... And they fo after bosh they won't be able to keep Lee right ?

So why don't try sign and trade david lee for bosh bird rights and calderon...

Even better if cabs really have a strong stance on not sign and trading labron then offer Dlee up... You can't pass that up if he's gonna leave anway

Maybe I'm missing something ...

I was kind of hoping the knicks could package something together for CP3 (chandler + cash + a pick?) and that would draw Lebron.

4. Panicking, Dolan forces Walsh into making stupid moves just keep media interest up
5. The Knicks give a max contract to Boozer the loser, then spend the rest on Steve Blake and Shaq
6. The 2011 CBA/lockout happens. As usual, the owners win. Teams have much less flexibility under a hard cap.
7. The Knicks now have a terrible roster, absolutely no breathing room under the cap because of the awful 2010 contracts, and no draft picks to show for it.
8. ?????
9. Profit

The more I think about it, the more I realize signing Amare is a huge mistake. The only way I think it's ok is if Lebron told them specifically that he'd only come to NY if they got one of Amare/Bosh/Wade first (extremely unlikely).

There's a few things to consider.

A. It's not a huge mistake in a vacuum, and not a mistake at all as Amare will easily be worth that money to the franchise.

B. It's a mistake from a strictly basketball standpoint when you could have had David Lee for cheaper.

C. David Lee doesn't satiate the New Yorkers who were told they're going to get something in 2010. Amare Stoudemire does.

When you factor in everything, I think the move is fine. I didn't include the Amare recruiting factor, but if that exists then that's a nice bonus too.

This is the main reason why signing Amare over DLee is a mistake. DLee will almost certainly take a home town discount to play for the Knicks, while Amare will cost the Max. I'm guessing DLee's ~$5 mil cheaper. Amare is obviously better than him, but not enough to justify that cap space.

Higher TS% on higher usage. But that, and Amare's higher ORB% & FTA, has to do with DLee handling the ball on the perimeter a lot more on offense. Having Nash on his team helps Amare a ton as well. They are both pretty terrible on defense, but DLee crushes Amare on DRB%.

We have no high draft picks for the next 2 years, so the only way for us to improve is through free agency or trades. Pissing away any amount of opportunity cost that comes from extra cap space just to satiate ******ed fans is stupid.

...there is no shortage of players willing to team up with him in the Big Apple. Sources said that after Stoudemire arrived in New York on Saturday, he received calls from San Antonio's Tony Parker and Denver's Carmelo Anthony, saying they'd strongly consider joining him if he signs.

"I've talked to Carmelo Anthony that he needs to come out here," Stoudemire said on Saturday. "I've talked to Tony Parker. Both guys are ready to join me if I decide to come here. So we will see if we can work it out..."
