New York Knicks: You trying to get the pipe? New York Knicks: You trying to get the pipe?

lol? I'd much rather be the Nets than the Knicks. They have 2 awesome pieces in Harris and Lopez, and a 3rd one should come in the draft this year. They also have enough cap space to go after a big free agent, giving them 4 sick players next year.

So his PER is suffering from negative variance?

The Newsday blog makes a strong case for leaning veteran for the first half of the season and development for the rest.

1) It's not completely throwing in the towel just yet.

2) It's "the right thing to do" to give some of the free agents a chance to show their stuff. If we show that we do right by out players, others are more likely to come.

3) Curry/JJ

After all that is done, yea.

Tracy McGrady

Rockets Get:
Al Harrington
Eddy Curry
Wilson Chandler
Toney Douglas

I made a comment earlier in this thread that I don't think Morey is in the business of giving away an expiring $23 million contract. But the way I'm looking at this trade, it doesn't seem that bad.

First of all, Al Harrington's contract expires for $10 Million at the end of this year. So right there that already cuts the damage next year in half. Secondly, Eddy Curry's contract expires the year after. This makes him extremely important for the Knicks to dump, but not really that big of a problem for Houston to hold onto. Worse case scenario is that they sign a $10 million FA next year and then Curry expires and they use that money the year after.

Now in terms of what it does for Houston this year...

1. It gives them a big time scorer/shot creator in Al Harrington. This is something they clearly lack if they want to make any kind of playoff push. His defensive shortcomings can be made up for by surrounding him with Battier and Hayes. He doesn't have to play that much minutes, but he'd be a very good 20mpg fit for them off the bench.

2. It gives them two potentially good prospects. Chandler has looked good for the Knicks this year. He fits the Houston mold pretty well as he's at least shown to be an ok defender. Carlisle should be able to get more out of him on defense. Douglas also gives them a very interesting PG prospect. Brooks and Lowry are nice little players, but Douglas' ceiling is higher than them imo. It's doubtful he'll get there, but it's still a possibility. Chandler would play SG for them imo.

For the Knicks, it gets them an extra like $14 million in cap space. That would mean they go into the summer with only like $13 million on the books. They'd be able to sign 2 MAX free agents and another smaller supporting piece with the MLE. Add that to Gallo and Hill and we might be on to something.

Is just this irrational wishful thinking on my part or would it actually make sense? Let me know so I can propose it to Morey on his facebook since we're friends.

Houston's Rotation for this year would be:

Brooks/Lowry/Douglas
Ariza/Chandler
Battier/Harrington
Scola/Landry
Hayes/Curry/Andersen

Better for this year and it won't make them that much worse in the future if at all.
delirious wishful thinking or am I on to something?

Wishful thinking. Morey has already said he's only gonna trade TMac for all expiring contracts.

Even if that wasn't true, TMac is an expiring $23 mil contract before the biggest free agent bonanza in the history of the NBA. There's no way he can't get a better package than that from another team.

looking pretty meh tonight

our d seems to be improving by the game although theyre bailing us out w some dumb shots

were ice cold and only down 12 @ the half so theres something

hopefully we can run our offense a lil less selfishly in the 2nd half (obv the magic arent the suns on D) but i think since were not making everything were content going back to the old 1st person with a semi open shot shoots which is pretty frustrating

Knicks nearing a deal to acquire Tyrus Thomas for Al Harrington. They'd have to take Jerome James also. From a contract deal it's a wash, they all expire after this year. I actually like it as a trade for this year though. Tyrus will actually give them somewhat of a defensive presence.

meh...Tyrus Thomas doesn't do it for me. I don't mind Al...I mean it doesn't matter for this year is a wash, but big meh. Poor Delusional Al though, he's on record numerous times as believing he will be with the Knicks long term.
