was ok, melo keeps having huge 1st Qs then slowing down. our D still looks meh and tyson has just started the season off in a huge funk. at one pt in like the 3rd Q him and melo had a combined 0 rebounds.
also, something occurred to me watching todays game. we really have 0 creation outside of melo/felton/smiff. no one does anything on offense except set screens and shoot 3s. like we dont have an offense and i fear that when our shooters start to regress we are going to crash hard. our main plays are
1) anything melo- melo iso on the high post is his go to
2) felton dribbling around 1+ chandler screens and either shooting a floater/getting to the rim or driving/dishing
3) smiff iso
4) sheed iso in the post
seriously we've got nothing else lol. i hate to say it but i really think amare is really damn important to this team we need him for our bench in a bad way. with amare and shump we can have rotations of:
felton/shump/brewer/melo/chandler with kidd/smiff/novak/amare/sheed off the bench, and pablo/camby/thomas can play spare minutes sometimes. all of a sudden we have a PnR threat in Amare with tons of guys in Felton/Kidd/Smiff who are capable of running a pretty good PnR.
Chandler's stats aren't as awesome as last year but they're still excellent. Kidd's assists are down but he's been playing great and making things happen on offense, still hitting 1/2 his 3s. Ditto for Brewer, but you wouldn't know it from his minutes, which are down to 15 per game. I've got no faith that Woodson has any idea who his productive players are.
I read that Woodson's slow to let Camby play b/c of his conditioning, but I'd still rather have him in there instead of Wallace, who's been overachieving. I was hoping Camby would get a shot vs the big Grizz front line but no dice, and Randolph went ahead and grabbed 8 O-rebs. Tonight's another game where Camby belongs on the floor to combat Lopez/Hump/Evans, but watch him sit again while Sheed is likely to get abused on the boards. Free Camby!
shocking that when felton and smiff suck its basically on melo to win the game by himself on offense. our offense is so stagnant its incredible. did we shoot one open 3 the entire game?
This is the second time in a week that the Knicks have had the final possession with a chance to win the game and Melo takes a terrible contested 17 foot iso jumper. are there no other plays in the playbook for this situation? we have no plays to get melo open at the elbow or maybe even dare i say get novak open for a three? if there is not i will shut up and watch melo go like 20% in those situations for the rest of the year.
