New York Knicks: You trying to get the pipe? New York Knicks: You trying to get the pipe?

Brooklyn Nets is next door, and they don't wear the Mets' colors.

James Dolan is only 56 years old and makes a ton of money off MSG.

I don't know if I want to spend the next 20 years watching him butcher the franchise.

Been doing that for 15 already... 20 more is a bit much.

Knicks signed Centre Kurt Thomas?

I'm glad Dolan is willing to spend luxury tax for Jerome James but not Jeremy Lin. Not to mention paying Larry Brown $28 million to coach the team for one year, not to mention $11.5 million in the whole Isiah sexual harassment thing. ****KKKKKKKKK

I'm fully convinced that the Knicks will never be contenders under Dolan. He will never let us rebuild properly, and he's not willing make a big push if he's content with the roster

What a ****** asshat. This guy, who makes every move on the basis of 'business,' somehow has the ability to take this 'personally'. What a two faced piece of **** owner.

Can we change the name of this ASAP (before we all stop posting in it)?

Taking everything into consideration - every move this franchise has made over the past decade, as well as my lifetime devotion to the team - I've decided that it's perfectly reasonable for fans to stop watching the team completely until:

(1) Dolan, miraculously, is divested of ownership; or
(2) the current version of the team is dismantled and the next phase of rebuilding begins, which I figure will happen in about 3 years, when all the big contracts expire.

As currently constructed, this team has no hope of contending. And worse, they are a collection of selfish malcontents, without even hope of improving.

Without any glimmer of hope, and hardly any likeable players, I just can't bring myself to continue watching.

I doubt I could really become a fan of another NBA team, but I will at least watch other teams in the meantime. Or maybe I'll start paying attention to hockey or college basketball again. Or maybe I'll write the great American novel. I'm open to suggestions.

"Allowing a young asset with the potential to mature and with significant demonstrable value already — both off the court and on it — to just walk away, though? Not having a plan in place to at least get something in return for the investment you made? Throwing your hands up because several completely reasonable things happened and you just straight-up got beat? That's not logic; it's tantrum. That doesn't make you some kind of principled, commendable soul; it just makes you a rash, ill-considered loser.
It makes you the Knicks.

Forever and always, the Knicks."

I liked this part:

This wasn't an act of treason. This wasn't a violation of some sacred trust or blood oath. This was a player with the collectively bargained right to find out how much he was worth on the market doing so. This was another team with an interest in that player and the salary cap space available to sign him exercising its collectively bargained right to offer him a contract that increased its chances of doing so. This was how free agency works. Weeping and gnashing your teeth at that indicates that Dolan, general manager Glen Grunwald and company don't actually understand the rules of the game they're playing, which is about as apt a description of the way the New York Knicks organization has been run for the past dozen years as any I've yet read.

noob question but could the Knicks have offered Lin that much money? Once Lin knew he could get 3/25 from Houston, could he go back to the Knicks and have them offer it without the big 3rd year part if he wanted to stay? Or could the Knicks only technically offer a certain amount, while other teams could offer more?

No, they could only match. The most they could offer was something like 24/4.

It basically went like this.

Houston offers 28/4... and everyone knows it.

Knicks lol "we'll match" before the papers are signed.

Houston "wait, we're really offering 25/3"

Knicks "FU"

What the Knicks/Dolan did here is the equivalent of spite calling in NLHE knowing you got the worst hand. "Can't let the fish push me around."

Knicks could not offer that amount of money at the outset; they could have offered a lot less initially, or matched whatever else was offered.

Here's a fun game I just invented. List the people who deserve the most blame for Lin not being a Knick today.

Here's my list:

Dolan
Carmelo
Isiah Thomas (I have no evidence for his involvement, but still)
Steven A. Smith (just because I hate the guy)
Glen Grunfeld
JR Smith
Raymond Felton (for being available)
Woodson (yeah he said the right things, but I don't think he meant them)
the guy I share an office with (for being a big Melo fan)

I'm probably leaving a few out.

I was wrong about Grunwald.

He didn't call Lin until 11pm. That suggests he was trying to convince Dolan to stop being an idiot until the last moment. My list is basiccally....

Dolan
Dolan
Dolan
Dolan
Dolan
Dolan
Dolan
Dolan

Is there a way we can legally force Dolan to kill himself? Maybe a loophole in an archaic law?
