New York Knicks: You trying to get the pipe? New York Knicks: You trying to get the pipe?

Amare jumped maybe a foot off the ground. So brutal.

It's his first game though and he was starting to get a good rhythm with Lin in the second half.

Jury's still out (on his offense.)

I just hope Amare's defense will improve from absolutely non-existent to just really bad.

Seriously, I'm super psyched and everything but let's not let all this Linning cloud us from the fact that Dantoni absolutely must be fired

Just checked box, Amare actually got 21 points despite 7 blocked shots.

If Amare starts moving/finishing better (it is his first game after a week off after all), he's gonna be linning&rolling a lot of points.

His defense... well, I just hope its becomes really bad instead of non-existent.

So is it pretty much a foregone conclusion that lin wont be a knick next yr? At this rate he'll be able to get a pretty nice contract somewhere right? Why would he stay here for the mid level exception or whatever we can sign him for.

He doesn't have a choice. He's restricted FA.

ah, so we can match any offer no matter how much it is if we want?

Teams can't offer more than average salary in first year to Lin, which is 5 million. They can backload it but we can match according to everything I read. He will use up the MLE though and not sure how it effects Landry (although we have his early bird rights).

Gets better. Lin has less than 2 years experience so the max other teams can offer him is league average, which is just over 5 million.

Lin's ours to keep as long as he plays well enough to justify 5.5 million or whatever the avg ends up being this year.

After that, we start worrying about clearing cap space but next year could be our best window with Amare and Melo still in their primes.

Why wouldnt we just give him a multi year deal with the MLE? If we give him a one year deal and he is legit he is gone after next year.

How many years does someone have to be signed to gain bird rights?

honestly, I am just trying to hold myself back.

It's only been 6 (histroically awesome) games after all.

I am just trying to enjoy the ride, for now.

But man, the idea of Lin playing well enough to warrant a multiyear contract is exciting.

Knicks will clear cap space for Lin if he indeed is real. But we won't know that until the end of this season. Lets see how he does these last 30 games.

Clearing cap space not really easy.

Well let's call a spade a spade for a minute. I think it's very clear that at the very least Jeremy Lin is a very capable backup/role player/legit worthy of roster spot on any team, with a ceiling of who knows. But it seems to me that a multi-year deal assuming we're not breaking the bank should be something considered ASAP if possible. He doesn't have to be even close to what he's been over this stretch to justify it anyway. I don't see why it should be much different than trying to lock up Fields or someone like that for several seasons. I know it's only been 6 games, but you just don't do what he's done in that span if you're not legit (by legit I mean the floor I gave him above and not Lebron). The idea is I don't see how it could be disastrous no matter what, with a chance to really pay off huge.

They can't do anything until the summer though.

yea, so we'll get to see him the rest of the way anyway. but the whole "we'll see how good he is before we decide if he's worth multiple years" seems short-sided at this point. I'd be insanely surprised if we decided in a few months from now that Jeremy Lin is not an NBA player worth having on our team.

Id be linsanely surprised too.

Linsane btw is passing iPad's spelling nazi. They must have added the word to the dictionary because it's the first time I typed it on the iPad

F60 is right, we can keep Landry and Lin with no problems.

Clawing back to .500 tonight. PnR should be better tonight with Stat more comfortable and LOLKINGS

Stat needs to play better defense.

But I am looking forward to amare putting up 30 tonight

pretty sure I read somewhere the Knicks have Lin's bird rights

after google search, looks like it's unclear but they probably don't

also, they can keep him at MLE next year regardless

Knicks have some space in 2013/2014. But giving him any type of significant deal probably means getting rid of Toney Douglas and Landry Fields and having a bunch of minimum players with a lineup of Lin/Shump/Melo/Stat/Chandler

I could live with that. With any luck we could even trade away amare or stat to get more role players.
