"Everybody's yelling out the windows: 'Melo we need you in New York.' Of course that feels good when you know someone out there wants you to come and represent their team and represent their city. That's what I took from that," Anthony said.

To be honest, I think it would be dumb to trade for him this season. He 100% wants to play in NY and we can just do a sign and trade in the offseason get him his max deal and not give up any key pieces on the team.

Although I am currently leaning towards that argument, there is a lot of risk there. Especially with the CBA ending.

While I don't doubt Melo wants to come to NY, you can never be sure how much he is posturing. He could 100% want to come to NY, but if the NYK aren't going to trade for him he may open up his options in February to get his $.

do we really want and need melo?

wilson chandler has been so awesome. and melo is not the most efficient scorer. and we have amare for points.

Get Melo and whatever 2 of Gallo/Chandler/Fields aren't as effective/prolific (Chandler especially). I'm not so convinced it'd be a net positive.

I don't know how accurate this is, but here's a RealGM post on our 2011 cap space situation:

In addition, to create enough cap space, even after the trade, we'd have to:

-Waive the Bird rights to all free agents on our team, effectively cutting ties with Wilson Chandler and Kelenna Azubuike.

-Waive our MLE, which could cost us the ability to sign another piece to help the team.

-Trade our first round pick (from the swap with the Rockets), to save the guaranteed money cap hold that the pick would create.

So in NOT trading for Melo, we're going to have to lose Chandler + Azubuike + Turiaf/Randolph + MLE player + First round draft pick. That seems like a lot of assets to lose just to get someone without "giving up a lot of assets".

If we offered Curry + Chandler + Azubuike + Turiaf/Randolph + First round draft pick to Denver, they'd probably take it, and we'd get Melo before the offseason, and still get to keep our MLE, in effect giving up LESS than what we'd have to give up to sign him as a free agent.

that would not be bad at all for NYK. you get to still keep gallo and dolph is barely getting any time and curry can go elsewhere.

keeping gallo is key. chandler has been solid this season and I personally like him. but ****damn its melo we are talking about

im not sure what some ppl itt are saying

melo is an elite scorer

also having an outside scoring presence opens things up so much for everyone else (amare/gallo especially)

I think we need to try to keep Chandler. I have np with giving up anyone else.

If Denver demands Chandler in a deal I would gamble and wait till the off-season.

Don't forget guys there is added bonus to getting Melo this year, if we don't have to give up too much of our nucleus, then he'll help us make a playoff push/run this year!

I don't think too many people thought we'd have a shot to do something this season but here we are.

EDIT: If we really can't sign Melo w/o keeping Chandler that sucksssssss

Amare and Carmelo are both elite high usage bulk scorers

Clearly we need to keep Chandler

Nets will make official a 3 team deal netting them 2 first round picks for terrance williams.---obviously trying to load up for a deal with denver

http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.co...38893/26450495

interesting read, NJ is still in full Carmelo mode, and apparently have been assured from Carmelo's people that he is still very open to signing an extension with them.

Only thing that causes me concern is that he decides the looming lockout is too much of a risk and decides to get paid now. Aside from that, I cannot see him agreeing to sign with them over the Knicks given how much closer we look to contending.

I have to give Amare credit, earlier in the season a bunch of us were bashing him (myself especially) because of his what was at the time really awful 1 on 1 play and him constantly shooting 15-19 foot jumpers from the elbow and out where he would literally brick what seemed like 80% of these per night. Now, it is such an important part of his game and one of the main reasons he has had this streak of 30 point games.

he was taking a lot more 20-21 footers than 15-18...it actually is a huge difference and its shown in his numbers

with that said his last possession was a joke...he was double teamed and refused to pass it off
