Surviving that game will have to be good enough.

You've got to feel good about this win. Winston was bad but the d finally showed up.

Do you? If they made 2 of those 3 missed field goals they'd have 20 pts. You can't say we'd have lost for sure then, because things would have been different and all that, but still - they seemed to be able to move the ball down the field just as effectively as we were.

saw, losing gronk on short notice almost certainly screwed up the game planning for the (short) week. given the circumstances i thought cooks, dola, hogan, and white did great with little support.

I agree. Not really concerned about the offense.

then why do you think the bucs could move the ball as effectively as we did? our D allowed 180 yards on the first 9 drives. then we gave up 158 on the last 2.

I guess McCourty is still in the discussion for the fastest guy on the team, after catching Desean Jackson from behind when he looked like he was leaving everyone else in the dust.

the D played better in the sense that there weren't multiple occasions of guys running wild and free against us. so that's progress.

we just need this D to be average for us to be a top (or THE top team) team and that's certainly in play.

yeah Folk missed 3 FG but one was really long, and a 49 yarder is no gimme either. also it was a joke he even got to take the long one.

obviously this isn't the team we thought it was, but I'm cautiously optimistic going forward. they just need to have the D be a not disaster, and there is the talent + coaching to do that.

I agree. You have to figure they'll make some trades or additions to the d too like they do every year. They've been extremely effective in past years of shoring it up with mid-season veteran additions.

Welp.... now I'm concerned. Making Josh McCown look like a God. Yeaaaap.

This is one of the slowest, least alert front 7s I have ever seen. Not one person can move in space or adjust to a QB or skill guy adjusting. It's like the ball snaps, every Pats defenders slows into his position, and if the ball goes in an unintended direction, he's got at least five yards before a LB or anyone else can adjust himself. It's beyond miscommunication. It's just garbage talent.

In other, perhaps more positive, news: today was Brady's win number 187, putting him in sole position as the QB with the most wins ever.

(also has way better win/loss ratios than the next two on the list (manningface and favruh))

Now he's in the same company as Aaron Hernandez.

I was fine with our Superbowls being exciting. I dont need that every week or I will grow old much faster. Previously I watched always only the Pats game. With this defense I watch redzone because it would be unhealthy for me to watch the full Pats game.

I'm seeing improvement on D. If they can fade injuries and keep improving they might be adequate by the end of the season.

I know the points allowed are much worse right now, but they don't seem as terrible as the 2011 D to my eye. At least they force a fair number of 3 and outs.

4 sacks and 7 plays for a loss.

The thing that triggers me most is how often we let opponents complete third and long. Doenst matter if it's penalties or coverage issues. They have to improve there.

I'm with you. also they were playing without Gilmore and Rowe yesterday.

I think by the end of the year this defense should be playing on a league average level. I think we'll be up this year with any other team (and we basically already are)

This call was disgusting:

What a ridiculous rulebook where this was a possible outcome.

the way I see it, that call was simply payback from the one the refs botched when Ben Watson ran down Champ Bailey.

Was at game yesterday. Don't know if I have said it before, but Jets fans are the nut low. A (correct) call like that couldn't have gone against a more deserving bunch.

Also apparently the NFL rigs games IN FAVOR of the Patriots for...reasons.
