Not to mention that when you win almost all your games your opponents will have more losses and less chance of making the playoffs.

Really good info, Kneel. It's so foreign in this thread to have someone back up their point with some real data. That's including myself.

O'Brien is gone to Penn State. Have they been grooming anyone to replace him as OC? Any chance they bring McDaniels back?

I feel like no team loses as many coaches as we do.

Mcdaniels will command a lot of money I think, more than the team would typically pay I think...not their style.

McDaniels is unlikely to land an HC gig right away given his recent failures in DEN and STL. He has a year left on his contract in the latter, so I doubt he would leave, but going back to the Pats to run a top 3 offense for another year or two wouldn't be a huge setback in his career. He's only 35, and left the Pats on congenial terms. Wouldn't be his worst career move at all, and I'd welcome him back. He risks the "it's all Brady" argument, but let's face it, at this point... it is.

That said, they are probably going to promote within. Not that it totally matters.

Also the last time a Pats' OC left for a big-time college gig during the playoffs the Pats won the Super Bowl.

Packers 28th
Steelers 29th
Saints 31st
Texans 30th
49'ers 32nd
Ravens 21st

so by that metric we played an easy schedule, but so did nearly every other top tier team. so it's not really a strike against us when compared to any other top team.

in addition, the metric of "playoff teams faced" isn't really a great one. we beat the Jets twice, and I think they are better than the Bengals. but we get no credit for that? what about beating the Eagles and Chargers who are also better than the Texans, Bengals & Broncos? or beating the Cowboys who almost certainly would have made it if not for the midseason Romo injury?

finally, beating teams by a lot of points, even bad teams, is predictive of future success. only the Saints and Packers have a better point differential than we do.

For the record I buy into all of this and completely respect your posts and analysis, but for sure you reside with most of us Pats fans who will be pissed off if the Pats lose a third straight playoff game and second straight bye game in the playoffs. I'd like to see the stats on that for other teams with 1st round byes, I bet it doesn't make the Pats look very good in terms of playoff results if we lose again.

I just want to win a damn playoff game again.

Relax Salva

We will be getting our money in good once again, it just comes down to whether we will hold or not.

of course I'll be disappointed if/when we lose our next game. it won't change my overrall opinion of the team, we are what we are an elite, all time great offense with a mediocre at best defense who is not quite the best team but pretty close. if we lose to a fellow elite team, that sucks, but that happens.

just ask the Eagles, who were seeded

#4
#3
#1
#1
#1

from 2000 - 2004 and only reached 1 SB, losing to us. be glad you're not a fan of that team!!

I'm still not worried about this team. I don't see any team in the AFC that has me thinking we can't beat them.

(BTW, "if the season ended today", the Pats are a 3-seed. Behind, of all people, 2-seed HOU and 1-seed CIN! Does anyone here really believe that there's no catching THOSE two teams???)
Your Honor, let the record show that the Patriots did, in fact, run the table, finish with 13 wins, and the #1 seed.

The patriots asked for permission to talk to McDaniels so maybe he will be returning. I always liked him even with his ridiculous antics when he beat us in Denver.

You'd be pretty excited too if you beat (one of) your mentor(s) the first time you faced them as a coach. Especially if they're as great as BB is.

You should have invested $100 and bet the money line and parlayed it for the 8 games. Wonder how much that would have returned?

It looks like Josh McDaniels is definitely getting rehired by the Patriots.

He's going to start working for the team immediately. Though Bill O'Brien will remain as the offensive coordinator during the playoffs.

Charles Barkley did a cameo on the CIN-HOU pregame show to plug his SNL appearance tonight. Asked for a prediction, he said he LOVES the Lions. Reason: both teams can score, but Detroit has some playmakers on defense, too.

Rodney Harrison disagreed. "I've played there, it gets loud, they're a different team at home, blahblahblah..."

Barkley got indignant. "You wanna bet?"

Everyone's jaw dropped. Charles immediately backtracked. "We'll bet dinner."

Dungy explained NBC's Standards and Practices for football analysts in three words: "You can't BET!"

"Not cash, just dinner!", Charles said defensively. "You know, because Rodney is cheap!"

love McDaniels coming back and starting so soon. I'm sure it could be helpful to have another good brain around.
