I can't believe Seau is coming back for his 20th season.

i meant moreso for fred. he gets a chance to play on a winning team and gets injured (potentially for the rest of the season) relatively early on?

no basis for this, but i feel like it's more common for linebackers and linemen to be good out of the gate than dbs

pretty much guranteed to choke this game away after the red sox choked. the season is over, bostons water has some kind of choker poison in it now after years of clutchness. that and this D seems to be designed to keep us in the game and choke it away if its close at the end.

lack of a pass rush gives us no shot at a superbowl, but we have the #1 pick 2 yrs from now so I predict the dynasty is rebuilt w/ players from that draft. brady will get his 4th then he and bb will retire.

also our kick return game has been completly usless this year for some reason. we start with the ball at the 20 every time.

Anyone have stats on average returns/starting field position on kickoffs, now that the wedge has been outlawed?

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

first pats game I've watched all year, this is what I came away with:

1. pats doubled gafney a decent amount, as the announcers said.

Um... ok? B Marshall w/ 2 TD's.

2. pats try to "commit" to the run (more so than the '07 season at least) but they are clearly not a running team. Their run game is the short/intermediate pass game aka Welker, yet Welker isn't 100% and his timing w/ Brady still seems a bit off

3. >75% of the time Champ Bailey was NOT lined up on Moss but rather Andre Goodman, who is 5 foot 10, yet Brady NEVER looked Moss's way. Even when Welker and the TE were well covered, Brady still forced throws their way.

Why not let Moss make some plays? I feel he has been way underutilized this year. Sure, Brady has missed him a few times on clear TD's but at least let arguably the game's best jump ball guy have the opportunity to make some more plays every game.

I mean ****, end of the 1st half, orton tosses a hail mary into a crowd of 20 guys and who CLEARLY comes up with the catch like he's playing backyard football w/ elementary school kids?

4. Defense will be REALLY good in 2-3 years but by then Moss/Brady/Welker will all be really old.

5. Receiving corps is pretty damn thin. If Welker really does have a serious injury, what do they do? They simply don't/can't run the run effectively on a consistent basis and Galloway has been a bust.

6. Brady still isn't 100% in terms of timing, accuracy, etc.. This is clearly evident. He is getting there but I don't expect him to be there until the latter half of the season.

My 2 cents

i am quite surprised to see them completely struggling to run. i guess their OL is much more in tune with pass blocking

he was probably being doubled. ive seen plenty of teams do this against the pats, where they would rather put the #2 corner underneath on moss, jammimg him and jumping all the short routes while they keep a safety over the top. the #1 cb is put 1v1 on welker, or in this case they kept moving bailey all around

ive been pretty surprised by this as well. i havnt seen brady take any deep shots at all. hes just 2/13 on passes over 20 yards, dont know what to say

the loss was super frustrating b/c that win was there for the taking. with 2 minutes left and only needing 20 ish more yards, I was sure we were gonna win.

on the bright side, Tom Brady is the weakest link on this team. thats gonna change

that's true, but teams do the same thing/similar things vs. Fitz, Megatron, Andre, Wayne, etc. and yet all of those receivers are still being more productive than Moss is, unless you are telling me that they are all flat out better than Randy, which is clearly not true.

Sure, lots of variables are involved and they are all different receivers (esp. Randy, who is almost a pure deep threat).

I mean, I just don't understand why the Pats aren't finding more ways to get him involved/throw it to him a few more times during the game to let him go and make plays. Rarely does a throw to Moss get picked (Revis pick is the only one I can think of in the last 3 seasons and it really doesn't count bc Randy and Brady were not on the same page, Randy wasn't running at full speed bc he didn't think the ball was going his way while Tom just chucked it up/underthrew it), worse case it is an incomplete or PI.

Just look at Indy, Wayne gets doubled almost every play yet he is still avg. ~1TD/game. The Colts and Manning are finding ways to get him involved bc he is clearly their #1 and best receiver.

I mean, goal line situations should be auto TD's for Randy. That is HIS SPECIALTY.

Can the Pats not do this? So far, the only highlights this season of Brady to Moss have been overthrown TD's, at least 3-4 that I can think of (1 vs the Jets, 1 yesterday vs. Broncos, 1 vs the Falcons, maybe even missing some more).[/QUOTE]

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

Moss at 25 can be compared to those guys, but Moss isn't as good as he used to be. Fitz is 26, Andre 28, Megatron 24 while Randy Moss is 32 and will turn 33 in February. Those 3 WRs are very near their peaks while i'm pretty sure Randy is past his. Randy's strength has always been his deep game, he's faster than most NFL DBs. But Cassel and Brady haven't been that great with the deep ball the last 2 seasons and Randy has lost some of his big edge. He isn't an amazing route runner either, so his #s should fall with age and fall quickly. It's not like he's been that bad, 73.4 YPG so far, but he hasn't been amazing cause he's likely not that amazing anymore. In the last 5 seasons, he's had 1 season over 75 ypg. Of course he's been in Oakland for 2 seasons and with Cassel for one season as well as injured Brady for a third of one so far this season.

sums it up pretty well. moss definitely does not have the freakish speed he used to.

again id point to brady not being back to form as why randy hasnt done a ton. so many of his great throws are small split second windows where he has to be incredibly accurate, and hes just not there yet.
