Inside the NFL's James Brown: "The Patriots are a Theodis McKelvin fumble away from being 0-2..."

[shudder]

Damn, never thought about it that way.

He actually said "Theodis" McKelvin when his name is Leodis?

Obv I couldn't be bothered to look up the name of some random Buffalo special teamer.

Instead of busting my chops for getting it wrong, I think I should be given credit for coming so close to getting it right.

(I've been planning a big 10,000th Post Extravaganza, but counting down these final ten posts before the odometer turns over has been grueling, as I have spent the entire time responding to this sort of overbearing nittery.)

Some random Buffalo special teamer? So I'm guessing you do not watch the NFL draft at all? And it's also safe to assume you watch absolutely no college football?

It is pretty low on the egregious errors scale Ship.

Correct, and correct. Wow, you're two-for-two. Nice job.

We don't have college football in New England. We had four years of Doug Flutie, and that's it...and that was 25 years ago!

--Anybody know where I can send a "Get Well Soon" card to Wes Welker?

--Do you mean to tell me that there isn't an unsigned free agent WR somewhere, who can occasionally hold onto a football that hits him in the hands?

--Moss has everybody beat on the first drive, Brady has plenty of time, and he can't get him the ball. It wasn't even close. This knee recovery has "Carson Palmer" written all over it. See you in 2011, Tom.

(As I typed that last sentence, Brady lobs one WAY over the head of a wide-open Ben Watson.)

Hey, Troy Aikman, that's what we call a "mock cheer" in the northeast.

(Galloway finally hauls in a 3-yd recpt, and the crowd let's loose an overenthusiastic cheer. Troy thinks the enthusiasm is genuine.)

Is going for it on 4th and inches at your own 24 about midway through the 3rd quarter when your up 6 really good?

Snagged this from SOSH:

According to the footballcommentary.com model, that situation (ball on own 20, 6 point lead, 2nd half) requires a 66% probability of success in order to break even.

When you're picking up 4-8 yards every time you call a running play, I'd say it's a good idea.

Then again, I'm one of those TMQ, "Punting=turnover" disciples.

But, that said, LOL at Buck and Aikman for comparing the 4th-and-3 that came later, to the 4th-and-inches.

BTW, this much-maligned defense has only allowed 10 pts in three quarters (as I type this). Since the lone TD drive, the only yards the Falcons have got were either from perfect, indefensible throws from Ryan, or uncalled push-offs from Falcon WR's (a lot of push-offs by both teams, all but one uncalled).

Has Wilfork returned since limping off? I haven't seen him.

EDIT: As soon as I posted that, Buck finally reported that he has yet to return.

Pats D seems to be not-terrible at defending long throws, very good at stopping the run and craptacular at stopping passes over the middle/to RBs in space. Not sure why the Falcons haven't tried the last option more often.

I just threw an empty Coke bottle after that last Edelman drop. I can't remember the last time I threw something while watching a game I didn't have money on.

(Appropo of nothing, I love Jeff Fisher's throwback Houston Oilers sweatshirt today.)

You know, I wouldn't mind running for two yards on first down, and throwing a deep incompletion on second down...

...but we seem to throw the long incompletion on first down, and run for two yards on second down.

Same result, but for some reason, the second way bothers me more.

And if I see one more draw or screen on third-and-long in the red zone, I'm throwing another Coke bottle.

We absolutely HAD to have a TD that drive. Their defense has been on the field the entire game, if we can't score on them now, we're in huge trouble.

Read my posts from this game, and you'd think we were losing 26-10 right now, not the other way around.

If you want to put me on your ignore list, I couldn't blame you.

I didn't see Denver's opening drive today, but they just went for it on 4th-and-goal, and got stuffed.

Somebody tell Josh McDaniel(s) that taking 3 points /= to a turnover.

Yeah, I was surprised by that as well; he pretty much shut down John Abraham one-on-one.
