Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

The ESPN crew just said Brady's 39 completions was a career record.

39/53, 378 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

How does everybody feel about the 2 roughing the passer penalties? I think the first one against Wilfork was clearly wrong. And the second one, while Thomas did throw him to the ground, Edwards was still struggling to get away. Suppose Thomas eases up and he squirms away and makes a big completion? So imo they were both bad calls.

Wilfork's penalty was an awful call, Thomas's a clear foul imo as it was well after the whistle.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

wow, that was a 2003 crazy win. unbelievable.

I really love the progression Merriweather has made...he didn't do much at first but is now a key player and hits like a mother****er

Brady was certainly shaky at first, but both quantitatively and qualitatively the 2nd half was standard Brady. they just werent throwing downfield as much

but if Mayo is seriously hurt, we are in trouble. the LB core was weak as is

also Maroney looked good, was great to see him take on tacklers.

I didn't hear a whistle. If the whistle blew then I agree.

That's what I saw in this game that I loved. In 2007, late in the year and the playoffs, the opposition took the long ball away from Moss and he disappeared from the offense. Last night there were a lot of plays designed for Moss to catch the ball short.

basically somebody noticed that the Bills were giving Moss a 10-yard cushion, so they dinked and dunked in the 2nd half.
Also:

--After watching PIT/TEN on Thursday night, and CHI/GB on Sunday night, I felt like I learned a lesson on the value of a strong pass rush, as all four teams had one (esp PIT and TEN). I was excited about ours (AD Thomas returning from injury and the acquisition of Burgess), but the stopgap Buffalo O-Line handled us way too easily. I guess I was swayed by the success we had in the one preseason game I saw, when we blitzed the hell out of Philly. Maybe we didn't blitz so much last night because of the Mayo injury. Heck, maybe the root of our pass rush problems overall was because of the Mayo injury.

--Just take those red jerseys, and burn them already. I've got a couple of Pat Patriot caps (they're currently my favs), and I love seeing him on gear worn by the fans in Foxborough, but when the players strap on the red/white/blue, it's never a good thing.

--Thank God I don't bet this stuff. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong...but whenever I have a strong opinion, I'm wrong 100% of the time, including 0-2 with the chalk last night.

--Some funny comments during Simmons' chat with fans during the game last night, such as,
"bringing out my russ francis jersey for this one"

"I don't care if this is the worst football game ever, as long as I don't have to sit through another Jay Leno promo I will be satisfied."

"I thought I saw Tony Eason in the crowd with a video camera, but he ran back 10 yards and rolled into a ball before I could verify."

"Where can I order a throwback Walt Coleman orange zebra outfit?"

"Walt looks like he should be driving an ice cream truck."

(after a nice gain by Maroney) "Serena Williams is running with fury- first down!"

"It's funny to see Fred Taylor in a throwback uniform ... kind of redundant."

"Jaws just said that the Pats are double teaming Owens. No wonder they are running for 20 yards a carry."

"Will they introduce Al Davis as part of the Patriots 50th Anniversary team?"

"There's absolutely no reason Bruschi can't suit up if Mayo can't go."

"Maybe Randy Moss has the Swine Flu and the Bills are terrified of him. That would explain their coverage."

"Did the Pats just remember that they have Randy Moss against the Bills secondary? Did it somehow slip their mind for 35 minutes?"

"Brady's run for the first down that just happened was like watching Forrest Gump run from the bullies. RUN TOMMY RUN!!!!!"

Link.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

All the Jets season ticket holders got a phone call from Rex Ryan this week.

On the recorded message, Rex asks the fans to show up and be the 12th man.

He admits that "they have a better head coach than we do, and a better quarterback than we do," but he hopes show the Jets have a better team, and he'd love to be 1-0 against "a better head coach".

Rivalry schmivalry, I love Rex Ryan.

And I miss Buddy.

If we were supposed to NOT bump this thread and keep it under the radar, I missed that memo.

I think this game goes differently if EITHER Welker or Mayo had been healthy. Galloway and Edelman combined for about ten drops/misses that had me thinking, "Welker would have made that play."

[Remainder of optimistic, excuses-filled post deleted.]

Receiving corps is nothing special anymore. Moss looks like he can't blow by people anymore, of course Welker is dinged and Galloway is over the hill too. Belichick will think of something though. There's a long way to go.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

this was one of the worst games to not have welker
revis = moss wont ever be open
galloway sucks
edelman doesnt have the timing to convert all of the short passes vs blitzes that welker would make.

i think we should have went with more 2 rb passing plays. one rb blocks and one goes out for the short pass. faulk only had 1 catch since he had to stay back and block on every pass play.

That was a ferocious defense we saw today. We won't see many defenses give us that sort of trouble the rest of the way.

Not to come in and troll in this thread, but I am just curious, were there red flags after the Bills game, or now because they actually lost instead of luckboxed a win.

Of course there were red flags after the Bills game. In a sense, it's probably better that Brady didn't lead the team to a last minute TD yesterday because a team such as this, that has had so much success over the last several years might delude itself into thinking everything is all right. If they were fat and happy and didn't have BB's undivided attention, they do now.
