I can tell you from experience having torn the ligaments in my left knee that there is a physchological adjustment period even after physically you are 100%. Even though the knee feels great, subconciously, even somewhat consciously you are queasy that you're going to blow the knee out again.

We have no back up quarterback. O'Connell is terrible.

godspeed Tedy

I'm sure BB told him he was about to get cut and wanted him to go out better than that.

What a privilege it was to watch him play the game.

I knew I should have checked the newspapers for a better Bruschi pic, instead of Google.

Patriots released Andrew Walter. So the QB depth chart has an undrafted rookie free agent backing up Brady coming off knee surgery. Yikes!

But i guess in a sense it really doesn't matter. There really are very few NFL teams if any that aren't totally screwed if their franchise qb goes down.

Pats just traded Richard Seymour to the Raiders for a 2011 1st round draft choice. I sure hope Bill knows what he is doing. This seems like a year that have a great shot at a title, I would see rather them take a shot at this year with a fully loaded team then thinking 2 years out.

It's a great trade for the Patriots. If you go on the assumption that you weren't going to pay what he was going to want and therefore would only have him for one more season then this trade is very + EV for the Pats. They trade him to the one organization that you are sure will give you back a top 5 pick in 2011.

So if you have reservations ask this. What is worth more, Seymour for one more year or a top 5 draft pick in 2011 where they could conceivably get another Seymour quality player that will be with the team for years to come.

The biggest msitake most teams make in all sports is hanging on to their star players too long. The Patriots key to long term success is that they don't do this.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

Vrabel couldn't get to the QB any more, and was sent packing.

Bruschi couldn't get to the QB any more, and was sent packing.

Seymour couldn't get to the QB any more...

You never see ANYBODY traded for a #1. Those things are GOLD. Halfway-decent starting QB's, when mentioned in trade talks, are said to be worth a #2. Didn't we get a #2 for Cassel? Every time the Eagles come up just short, and think about blowing up the team and starting over, they can't find anybody to give them more than a #2 for McNabb. Randy Moss cost a #4.

If we got a #2 for Seymour, I'd be delighted. No way possible to say no to a #1 for Seymour.

The only thing about this deal that worries me is that it's the third straight time we have brutally raped the Raiders in a deal (Moss, Burgess, now this). The other shoe dropping will be the league investigation into these deals. It's starting to look like the guy at the bottom of your fantasy league, who is shipping all his assets to his friend who is fighting for the title.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

I missed the Seymour trade news yesterday. It's a bit of a shock. It's very uncommon for a championship contender to trade a good player for a future draft pick.

However, getting a #1 pick is a steal, especially considering this was very likely to be Seymour's last season on the team. Based on what I've read about the NFL labor problems/negotiations, the 2011 draft is likely to have rookie salary caps. That's supposed to make the early picks less expensive to sign. So, the Patriots just might end up with a top pick for less than what it would cost to sign one today.

it's actually sort of the opposite. with the money the really high picks are getting right now it's viewed as a bit of an albatross that can really wreck your cap space while you wait for the player to develop. when it is done, it's almost always on draft day when a GM wants to make sure he gets a particular player, in a vacuum having a pick that high is really a risk. it's why the pats almost always trade down, sometimes completely out of the 1st round. the reason the pats are doing this now is because they expect a slotted rookie pay scale by the 2011 draft.

Yeah hopefully they get a new cba with a rookie cap. But yesterday I heard that if there was no agreement by 2011, there would be no draft. Could that be what the daffy Oakland front office is counting on?

I mean, there's gonna be a draft. there is far too much money at stake for all sides to risk canceling the season. I know, I know, strikes have happened before but the NFL is a goldmine

what i have read is there will be a draft, and teams will retain the rights to players they take even if there is no 2011 season, but it is a huge possibility that it will be an abysmal draft since a lot of underclassmen will probably come out in 2010 and no underclassmen will want to come out in 2011. plus 2010 was already projected to be pretty deep.

One of the better sports jokes I've heard in a while from Joe P. of SI.

Peter King had five thoughts on the trade of Richard Seymour from New England to Oakland for a first-round pick. I only have two:

1. I don't want to say Bill Belichick is unsentimental, but I suspect he was giggling at the end of Brian's Song.

Nice line in the NY Times today, about the Dolphins sucking yesterday, and with their next games vs IND and SD, the likelihood of them starting out 0-3. It went something like, "Even before the Patriots have played a single down, you can feel the balance of power in the AFC East shifting back towards Foxborough."

I'm so stoked for tonight. I've been waiting for this since Brady limped off the field last September. I'm going to go ahead and jinx the team by reminding everyone of my 19-0 prediction.

Wow, could be a long year on defense if Buffalo and score that easily.

Unreal that you can just play for 4 minutes and still win.
