Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

Pats hardly pay any of their players serious money e/c what Seymour and Brady...otherwise they are rather thrifty. Wilfork is great but he's probably replacable.

Pats aren't thrifty at all, my guess is that they are near the top of the league in actual dollars spent on player salaries. they just normally don't sign blockbuster deals, spreading it around a bit more than other teams.

but it won't be a surprise if they try to get 75% of Wilfork at 25% of the cost, and spend the money elsewhere where talent is not as cheaply available (ie when you find a Randy Moss or Wes Welker)

Yes, it seemed pretty tough when they went 16-0. Good luck rooting for cleveland or cincinnatti, dinky.

UTTER: Fresh stain on the floor when I checked in. The previous occupant may have checked out, short a useful amount of blood. That would make these accomplices you speak of, dangerous people.

GARRETT: Yes, I quite take your point. "No honor among thieves". Well, thank you for your time. I'll pursue my remedies elsewhere. (exits)

HICKOK: I don't think he took your point.....quite.

UTTER: I believe he quite missed it.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

season not off to tremendous start:

Quote:
Patriots rookie linebacker Tyrone McKenzie, who was injured during the team's rookie mini-camp last weekend, is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, according to a source close to the rookie.

The second of the team's two third-round picks in the 2009 NFL Draft, McKenzie was injured during the first of two practice sessions last Saturday. During a one-on-one coverage drill, McKenzie became tangled up with a running back and went down.

um, my point was that they went 16-0 AFTER the "scandal."

From ESPN.com

Jason Taylor takes less money for Miami return

I had hoped the Pats could land him.

We've got the smartest coach ever. In any sport. Period.

Of course, The Old Soap On The Ball Trick can't hold a candle to the time they were preparing to play Jacksonville in the playoffs. The J'ville D-Line was the tallest in the league, and led the league in batted down passes, so during practice that week, the D-Line rushed Brady while holding racquetball rackets.

It's been a long time since I was this excited in July for an NFL season.

OK, Tom, time to show everybody that 16-0 was no fluke.

(Hey, mods, what do you think about moving this to Single Season Whatever?)

That single season forum was only created because the yankee fans find it necessary to make a post every two minutes duirng their games and it was clogging up the main forum.

I'm moving it, but it's weird how obsessively angry the Yankees homers are about the split-off. nutshot2 is no exception; I can't remember a post from him that doesn't ***** about it. It seems like if you have some sort of Yankee avatar there is a >90% chance you will find a reason to bring it up in random threads. It can certainly be undone in the future, it's been a month and is still a trial.

Question for the Gillette faithful:

I have two SRO tickets to Falcons game. Are SRO only tickets worth it, or should I sell them for $100 and use that money for food/beer? I know you're limited to certain areas and googling told me to get there early or else I won't get a good view. That sounds like it sucks. However, I don't feel like shelling out $400 to sit in nosebleeds. Thoughts?

I've only gone to a handful of games and always had good seats but would always go to one of the standing areas to stretch. These areas were not crowded and had great views.

In fact, there are always fans that stand alot in the seated sections, blocking your view, so you end up standing too, so the standing section is not that bad in comparison.

lol? my posts have nothing to do with the forum splitting, at all. if you can find more than maybe one made on the day it happened (if that), i'd be interested in seeing it.

i was referring to toro's obsession with the yankees, so much so that he posts in a patriots thread about it. i'm pretty sure you'd never see anyone in a ny giants thread discussing the red sox.

that was my point, totally unrelated to the forum split. i actually like the forum split, and i think the main forum is much less cluttered as a result.

weird.

you may be remembering me reporting anatta's incessant retarded trolling of the yankees thread, which again has nothing to do with the forum split, as it would undoubtedly happen if the forum hadn't changed

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

Yes nutshot I am obsessed with the Yankees. As a diehard Red sox fan I ****ing hate them. But my post in the Patriots thread wasn't ragging on the team but you guys who post in this forum. The joke around here about Red Sox fans is that we have 162 one game seasons, because Red Sox nation is so into every single game. Yet we in this forum don't make a gazillion posts for every game like you guys do.

So I commented on it because I really do believe that's why the single season sub forum was created. Just curious, do you really follow the Patriots thread? Or could it be that you're reading all my posts so you can take a whack at me. I don't care if you are, it's kind of fun.

Re: New England Patriots 09, now with better kharma

Just finished Michael Holley's "Patriot Reign", a behind-the-scenes look at the Pats' organization during a two year stretch (the year after the Rams Superbowl where they missed the playoffs, and the year they beat Carolina for their 15th consecutive win).

I liked the first chapter, a look at Belichick, because it really was a much different look than the public, tight-lipped Belichick we all know. The chapter on breaking down the Rams' offense was good, too. I got the sense that Robert Kraft is a lot more involved in the decision-making than I ever realized.

I was disappointed that there wasn't much about the players. There's more material on Scott Pioli than all the players combined. Barely a paragraph on Brady, only peripheral mentions of the other stars on the team.

Anybody ever read Halberstam's book on Belichick? They say this guy is one of the great writers ever.

I've read both books, they are very different, but Halberstam's is better, it's amazing. it's not so much X's and O's, more a bio

my guess is closer to gametime you can scalp for decent prices, close to face value. my advice would be to be patient
