Doesn't every coach pretty much just bring their old staff?

Who knows what Riley will do. He might bring a couple guys but I doubt much more. He'll have a bunch of money to spend; Eichorst is going to support him with a lot of $$$$$. He'll be able to go after some good coordinators, I think. Orgeron would be amazing.

The more I hear about Riley, the more I'm liking the hire. He's going to be able to recruit better than he was at OSU, and it sounds like he does a very good job of developing players.

My biggest problem with Pelini's teams was that they seemed poorly coached. Linebackers out of position, bad tackling, qbs and receivers not on the same page... Callahan was similar in that respect. He brought in good talent and thought he could out scheme the other team. Neither seems to put much effort into development of said talent.

Yeah, it seems there's a lot to like, but also a lot of "it depends" when it comes to evaluating the hire.

Most of the national media LOVED the hire which is almost weird. But I think Riley can coach his ass off. It will be interesting because I can't recall any coaching hire like this in my short lifetime. This will likely be the most talent and the best situation that Riley has ever been in - so what will he do with it?

A ton will depend on who his staff is. He'll have a bunch of money to spend. A ton.

Step 1. Hire Ed Orgeron. Please?

It looks like Riley is bringing almost all of his Oregon State staff.

That is highly, highly disappointing. We gave him cash to spend. SPEND IT.

Randy Gregory declares, no surprise there

That leaves a pretty depleted DE position to go with a very depleted LB position. (4 LBs on the roster? wow)

McMullen will have to anchor one of the spots and obviously the DTs will be perhaps Nebraska's strongest position on the field next year on either side of the ball, but the rest of the front 7 is going to need some serious work

I'm glad that the Stoops-Pelini Oklahoma 'gentleman's agreement' is over

Jalin Barnett, nice get. Dude wears size 18 shoes apparently

I always say the line is the key to the offense. Seeing us land this kid and after reading this article on Cavanaugh makes me hopeful we can get back to rebuilding "The Pipeline".

Omaha Central DE @DaishonNeal90 will announce his college choice in studio tomorrow at 8:15. Will choose between Nebraska or Michigan.

@Coach_Riley
Some great news this afternoon, can't wait to introduce a great group of young men to #Huskers fans on Feb 4th! #GBR

Sounds like Neal is a Deal.

I don't follow recruiting too heavily since I'm kind of in the "whatever happens will happen regarless of if I follow it or not" camp, and the fact that hanging my hopes on the life choices of 17-yr-old kids seems incredibly lame, but the only recruits I was really hoping for with the change were the Davis twins and Neal, and we got 'em all. The big OK OL kid is just a bonus.

Hopefully we can just add a few linebackers and a juco or two and call it a year, Riley's first real class next year will be much more interesting

I don't follow recruiting that much either. I'm more concerned with how they coach the players up once they get them.

Sounds like Riley is doing OK though.

Yeah I'm pretty pleased all things considered. This class should end up ranked ~27th or so, which might be better than MSU and Wisconsin even with the change. Riley has been busting his ass.

Would really like the big OL kid to commit just to top the class off. Sounds like we took some fliers on some really high upside 2-star kids over the weekend. Risky, late-game stuff, which I'm not overly excited about, but to Riley's credit he kept the core of the class intact. If we can get ~21-22 kids and a 25th ranking, that'll be just fantastic.

Next year though I'll be expecting a top-15-20th ranked class, anything less will be failure.

Answer: No. Nebraska should basically be #1 in the nation in recruiting spending given that we have the highest "prestige to geographical-disadvantage" ratio in the country. That number needs to be 1.3 mil or so. We can certainly afford it, that's not even remotely a question.

I think spending is fine as long as the staff isn't left wanting. We shouldn't be saying we need to spend a certain amount of money on recruiting, but spend what we need to go after who we want.

If we have a good year, recruiting will be better next year. It will be a lot easier to sell Nebraska after a 9 or 10 win season.

That is some really good stuff, nice post

I know a lot of Nebraska folks are looking forward to the return of things like the fullback and the tight end and the basic screen pass. The tough thing will be getting a quarterback that Riley can work with...Armstrong is still the favorite to start but AJ Bush has had a strong spring too. It's gonna be huge to get a good QB early in this next recruiting class.

Gregory failed pot test

meh whatever. it's gonna cost him obviously. i just don't really give a **** about anyone using weed

but, at least that explains Bo's weird-ass marijuana rant last fall. I really can't figure Bo out. He screams and abuses refs and players, hires hard-drug addicts and wife-beaters to coach his players, berates administrators and his own fans, yet he goes on a crazy rant about a completely harmless drug. Oh, and CORE VALUES.
