Eventually we will. Nebraska football should be about championships, not just having a winning record and going to crappy bowl games.

Pelini is the best coach nebraska will ever have at this point.

In before you guys hire your Tim Beckman. Good thing you are in the West, where you can actually compete for 3rd place.

I mean, the whole geography thing is overblown when it comes to competing for conference championships. Bo sucked at recruiting and still pulled in 15-25th ranked classes (I think our 4-year average ranking is 21). With any player development at all that should be enough to compete for conference championships, or at the very least, not get blown out by teams who have less talent like Wisconsin - yeah, we recruit better than Wisconsin who has blown us out 3 times. And MSU. So that kind of proves that theory wrong.

Are we going to be Alabama or LSU or Oregon or whatever, hell no, and nobody thinks that. But you can't just keep getting embarrassed whenever you play anyone with a damn pulse, despite having the talent to at least compete with them, and never win anything of note, and keep your job.

In the recruiting short-term, this was always going to be the best time to switch. The 2015 class will only be a 14-man class, so it's not like we're scrambling to keep/find 26 guys or something all of a sudden. We had all 14, now we're down to 12, so whatever. I expect at least a couple more decommits soon. I don't think this factored heavily into Eichorst's decision though.

Seriously - if it is so funny tell me who are you going to get? Especially this year. Look at the schools searching. Neb will be a 2nd tier job this year. Maybe a mid-major HC or a young OC looking for a stepping stone? Is that who you want? Timing is everything. Bad timing for you to looking right now.

Trust me - the rest of the Big Ten wants you to be good.

All it takes is the right guy to be put in the right situation with the right resources. Look how well Gary Andersen is doing at Wisconsin for example - yet he isn't an Urban Meyer name.

Look this is not 2013. Charlie Strong and James Franklin aren't out there looking for jumps. I don't know the name - there are several candidates - but it should be a short search. People in the know are saying Eichorst already has his guy and within 1 week we should have a new coach.

I hope you are right - but there aren't that many saviors out there. Nebraska s/b a top job. But will a up and coming coach be interested in a job where a coach with Bo's results is unwanted and fired?

$5m seems to be the going rate for all top tier guys. That should put you in the market - just don't know the names of those worth it that would move.

I'll be surprised if Scott Frost is the guy. Not shocked, but surprised.

Nice list.

I would think many top coaches will do what Urban did and negotiate more $$ for asst coaches. It may have cost him $$$ but he will be able to keep good asst coaches a while and get good ones when others leave for HC jobs.

Nebraska isn't going to be hiring a proven coach away from some other school, but neither is Michigan or Florida.

We're going to have to get lucky with a FCS coach or a promising coordinator.

Meh. He hadn't even opened that letter. New coach will send him a new one.

No, I was saying he's an FCS coach. For the most part anyway.

The players' reactions on social media, continuing up to this very moment, are really telling.

The systemic and cultural issues are way deeper than we originally thought. And we originally thought they were pretty deep.
