Update 2: Pelini and the DC apparently smoked pot at a "social event" recently and were asked to resign.

Really, really weird situation. The social media response is going to be interesting. You'll have a ton of people saying it's dumb that he got fired for this but then others will say your coach can't be living his life hypocritically to how he instructs his players.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't just suspend him for a few games. Perhaps there's even more to this story.

Welp, a win today doesn't mean ****

A loss means the sky falls, bottom drops out, doom, gloom, 2007, etc etc.

Gonna be empty seats too. I had no problem finding a good ticket for $20

Soooooo happy for Ron Kellogg. What a great story for him. And lots of credit has to go to the defense this week.

I really wish Abdullah was getting some All-American chatter because he definitely deserves it. He is as good as any RB/IB in the country that I've seen (granted, I don't watch a ton of non-Big Ten games).

The defense looked a little better. Did the coaches actually make some adjustments at halftime? We held them to 3 points in the second half.

Tommy showed his immaturity yesterday with his decision making. He really forced a lot of his throws. Beck didn't do him any favors with his play calling. It's like Beck puts all the plays in a hat and just pulls them out at random.

And I'm getting really tired of the way they get set, fake the hand clap and then decide what they want to do. Sometimes I think they'd be better off just calling a play and running it.

Bando should never leave the field

I don't even think he played outstanding but he's the damn quarterback out there. There were stretches in the 2nd half where I just watched him, pre-snap until the whistle blew. He's about the only LB that knows what he's doing out there which is sad. The defense played completely different with him out there. Defense played amazing really after the midway point of the 2nd quarter

I don't know what other people think but I think it's dumb how often Northwestern plays Kain Colter at a position other than QB. 5 plays over the course of a game? Fine. 20+ times (which is what it felt like to me yesterday) is just overthinking things.

Yep. Northwestern would be a much better team if Simean stayed on the bench

Very, very impressive showing by the Huskers today all things considered. Despite some struggles throughout, Armstrong moves to 5-0 as a starter and his game-winning option pitch (technically a forward pass) to Abdullah was absolutely sick. Abdullah cemented his claim as best RB/IB in the Big Ten and has his sights set on best in the nation. The patchwork OL is doing enough to allow the skill position players to shine. The defense as a whole was awesome but special shout outs to Gregory (leads Big Ten in sacks and tackles for loss now), Moss, Randle, Evans, and Mitchell. I feel like I'm forgetting someone who contributed big time too.

Concerns: OL injuries (thank god for depth), punting (WTF Sam?!?), and veteran WRs dropping balls again this week.

Note I: I felt horrible for Westerkamp when he fumbled that punt return but I'm very confident it was a fluke. He has my full trust as a WR and as a return man.

Note II: I really don't like rotating QBs. It's not fair to expect Kellogg to have an impact coming in cold midway through a game and it's also not fair to sit Armstrong on the bench when he's in a rhythm. For the most part, I have confidence in both QBs if they are playing a full game but I would prefer that we just stick with Armstrong for four quarters unless he really starts to struggle.

I don't expect us to win next week against MSU but ONLY because injuries have demolished us these past 2-3 weeks.

P.S. This week's Tunnel Walk of Shame was the greatest of all time.

Not sure if the defense is really starting to play well, or Michigan is that bad. I'm leaning toward the latter. The offense is ok with Tommy at the helm, but they have to quit putting in Kellogg in the second quarter. I think it messes with the offensive flow and messes with Tommy's confidence.

And the basketball team looked good Friday as well.

Not sure I have ever seen an offense regress so dramatically in the course of one season without any major injuries as Michigan.

I 100% agree with everything you guys said, Jim and Johnny. The Kellogg snaps need to be gone from the game plan - we're so limited with him in there. Injuries - that O-line is going to get murdered next week. God help us.

Gotta sit Armstrong for at least the next game. He's single-handedly costing this team 14+ points a game now.

Disagree

Whole offense changes with RK3 in there and takes away a lot of the strength of abdullah. really only one of the turnovers was straight tommy's fault

Well, it doesn't matter who starts now. I say we give RK3 the start on senior day against Iowa.

Disgraceful display of turnovers by everyone involved. Actually Schu, 3 of those were on Tommy. Bad pitch, bad pass, and the fumble at the end of the first half.

But outside of that we actually played pretty good. Offense moved the ball until they turned it over. The defense played well until they were gassed in the 4th quarter.

I've seen lots of improvement by the defense in the last couple of weeks so maybe Paps can stay. The offensive playcalling is still terrible though. There's no flow to our offense. And it only seems like we pass when we absolutely have to. I wonder if there's someone to tutor Beck in the offseason to help with that. I would say fire Beck, but that's not gonna happen.

This team will beat PSU and Iowa and be 9-3. If we get a good draw maybe we win our bowl game. If that happens, there's not going to be any turnover of the staff.

I wasn't able to watch the game but listened to it while working. WTF with the call when Abdullah busted his long TD run? This team really pisses me off with their undisciplined play. False starts on second and goal from the one and kicking a FG in overtime?

But on the bright side, only two turnovers...

Why is this a problem? PSU missed theirs. It won you the game.

Love love love Ameer Abdullah. Very happy the coaches let Kellogg take most of the snaps. Happy to see Kenny Bell contribute in such a big way. Absolutely loved Beck's decision to call the option on 3rd and 10+ after the refs dicked over Abdullah. However, not Beck's best day as a playcaller overall. Hats off to Pat Smith for coming through in the clutch.

The Huskers have done a great job minimizing penalties (especially false starts) these past couple of seasons. It used to be a real cause for concern -- we're talking 10-15 penalties for 100+ yards kind of days. Last night was an aberration and it really wasn't a problem until the end of the game (not ideal timing, I understand). I'm especially forgiving because we're scraping the bottom of the barrel for linemen who are healthy enough to play.

Pelini is now 7-2 lifetime against Ohio State/Michigan/Penn State if I'm not mistaken.

Firing Bo Pelini would be a huge mistake.

Also, that ref needs to be reprimanded for that call against Sam Burtch on Ameer's game-winning TD run.
