Game Day bump.

I'm thinking the offense will look a lot sharper. Although the entire offensive line was at buffalo wild wings for the NFL opener instead of staying on campus, practicing and studying their playbooks.

And maybe Eric Martin won't look so lost out there

Predictions

Score: NU 38 FSU 16
O MVP: Martinez
D MVP: David
Turnovers: NU 1 FSU 2

We will see less option, more Reed/Turner, less Martinez designed carries, more freshmen RB carries, less Carnes, and more Dennard (ldo).

Maher will miss a FG, Turner will score a TD, Martinez will throw for >200 yards/run for <100 yards, and Abdullah will be electric in the return game.

Not too shabby -- especially that last one.

We have a couple bright spots, mainly David, Stafford, Turner, and Rex... but Bo better get his brain on some defensive scheming because our other linebackers are slow and bite on every misdirection. Faking a run left and rolling a back or TE out to the right and hitting him went for 8 yards like every time. The D-line just wasnt getting the job done. Getting Dennard back will help the secondary immensely...get Ciante out of there he was getting burned on simple out routes.

I was incredibly drunk through most of the first half and was seated much higher up than usual so thats about all I can say about the game

Our line play was terrible yesterday - on both sides of the ball.

For three quarters I was looking at one of the worst offensive lines I can remember seeing at NU. I know they are young, but there's no excuse for not having players in the system. For Nebraska to regain national prominence, this team is going to have to have a great offensive line and a great defense. We can't rely in a big play offense every time. There's going to be a time when we will have to grind out a long drive to eat up the clock.

I still think the defense will be alright. Our defensive coaches will make adjustments and find the right players to make it work.

To end on a positive note, I think Beck did a good job. He made adjustments in his playcalling to take advantage of what was working. T-Mart had some nice runs and passes. Burkhead was solid, but really didn't have much room to run until the line started to play in the 4th quarter.

the next time I see Blatchford trailing a WR by five yards, I might put my fist through the tv.

Gameday bump.

We have the potential to blow Wash out, but we need better play than we've seen the last two weeks.

I just hope that if Dennard is really questionable at all he sits out.

I've been drinking since 10:30 am so my ability to absorb the game as it's happening was diminished but I don't think we are anywhere near where we want/need to be at this point in the season and I also don't think Dennard's return is going to make enough of a difference against Wisconsin OR Ohio State. You could argue that we haven't gotten any better as a team since Week 1.

I do hope that Abdullah is okay for next week. Anyone got an update on his injury?

I disagree, I think the offense looked much sharper yesterday. Taylor seems more relaxed.
I have accepted though that we are overrated because the defense was simply overrated going in to this season. Dennard will help but I think we can fully appreciate now how incredible the secondary was last year. Crick is totally overrated. It is like he is still riding his season of playing next to Suh in the media.
Wisconsin is going to run the dline over. I think you just have to accept that.

stopping the run game is up to our LB much more than the DL.

It seems like Dennard will probably start, according to Bo. But Crick is questionable with a concussion and might be a no-go. Stafford will play some nickel (I think he's pretty well suited for that position and obviously better than blatchford) with PJ smith taking his safety spot.

A fun tidbit: This will be the smallest stadium Nebraska has played in since 1971.

Also, here is some players' twitter reaction to the team landing in Laramie:

My uncle and cousins live in Casper, WY. They're big Cowboy fans with NU a close second. They were originally from Fremont (as was I) and moved there as kids.

I was wondering about the smallest venue NU had played in recently.

Crick confirmed out for today's game.

Crowd figures to be 50/50 in Laramie

That was kind of a weird game to watch. Smallest crowd I can remember and it didn't feel like I was watching D1 football. Lots of red in the stands. Reminded me of going to a KU game in Lawrence.

Hard to get a feel for this team even after 4 games. I want to think they are going to step up for Wisconsin, but I really don't know if it's in them.

there are definitely some decent players on this team. burkhead/good martinez are quite good, lavonte david/dennard (though a bit rusty obviously), etc.there are still a ton of issues though with some LB/cb miscues and poor tackling.

i think one of the big problems seen in the past few games is a slow start. starting slow vs. a decent team and having to play from behind/lost momentum is going to be quite detrimental vs. some of NU's bigger opponents (will be interesting to see this coming weeks game).
