I hope we don't turn into the Cubs of college football -- there's always next year!
Our schedule, practically our entire offense coming back, and the combo of Ciante Evans & Jonathan Rose in the secondary has me very optimistic for next year. If only we had some effing D linemen....
This week's Onion hits too close to home: "Packers GM Checks Waiver Wire For Offensive Lines"
He was a massive fail so we aren't missing much, but it's getting old seeing all the guys who are either quitting or just not panning out on both the offensive and defensive lines. Depth is paper-thin at DT and OT. We have like 58 guards and 2 tackles. We will really be looking for answers on the DL next year too...hopefully Valentine is everything that they say he is
Best RB prospect from the state of CA, we'll have insane depth in the backfield for the next few years. Now if we could only find some insane depth at OT and Center to go with it
2 more big commits today with a tiny chance of a third and very good chance of one on Wednesday. This will be our best class since 2005 and in terms of on the field production it'll blow that class away.
I am pretty tilted about this weekend's recruiting events. McWilson just sucks, and Walker is a flake who we're pretty lucky to avoid, but going on an anti-Nebraska twitter and media rampage is pretty immature and is not what we needed before signing day
Yeah he figured to see more action and be the solid #2 guy. I thought he was the most natural talent we had at RB. 6.7 ypc last year. If Ameer goes down...god help us
We are quickly making up for those 2 last de-commitments.
Drake Martinez recently committed. Chongo Kondolo committed today. Dwayne Johnson is at least a 50-50 for Nebraska. And now it sounds like Mizzou commit D. Mixon will commit on Monday. And I think I'm forgetting someone else in this list. Bottom line, we could still finish in the Top 15 for overall recruiting classes in the eyes of most services. One service already has us at #12 before Kondolo, Johnson and Mixon.
My cousin emailed me to let me know about an interview with Eric Warfield linked on Huskermax. He talks about which football players would have made the basketball team if they had tried out. I used to play with Eric and a couple of the guys he mentioned. Warfield was pretty good.
Saw Baron Miles take an alley-oop of they backboard and flush it with two hands. (He was 5'9")
Got a deep thigh bruise from Tommy Fraziers knee.
Had Adam Treu block a three pointer I threw up.
Saw Tyron Lue dunk it a couple of times. I agree with Warfield that he was the best player at Nebraska. Strickland was pretty good and Piatkowski was an amazing shooter, but Lue was a baller.
You wanna know something crazy...I've played basketball with Warfield too. He used to show up randomly at the rec center and play pick-up ball so I ended up playing a few games with/against him every now and then a couple years ago. Not very polished but still athletic as hell even at whatever age he's at now
I'm not liking this spring. I'll say that I hate spring football in general, the attention that it receives and all the storylines that the media likes to try to create out of nothing (especially given the highly limited practices we have). But usually you hear about all the promise that certain guys have, people stepping up and filling roles, blah blah blah.
All I'm hearing is how the defense is getting torched, how we don't know who is going to step up on the defensive line, how the linebackers are getting flipped and switched all over the place. We better hope a guy like a Randy Gregory can step in and do some things and that Zaire can take control of the middle of the field...I'm thinking that the defense is going to be in deep trouble again this year. Not based on any one thing; just reading between the lines of all the rumblings coming out of practice so far.
not much info here, but one of my friends is a walk on RS frosh. he said that the defense is all fairly athletic but there aren't really any leaders. he said the lines haven't looked great and the defensive line in particular was mehhhh. taylor is taylor but he's been better in practice throwing the ball. i guess tommy armstrong is the #2 and he's looked pretty damn good in practice.
