God it feels great to actually have real quarterbacks again. And we have at least 2!

Lee looks super solid and Gebbia is going to be special.

Watching Lee, Gebbia and O'Brien go through their progressions and be able to hit the short passes was fun to watch. I think we might have a very potent offense next year.

I'm not sure about the defense though...

It's time.

A lot of the super-insiders are very optimistic, and a lot of the media are super-pessimistic.

I have no idea what to expect, but am excited to see the new defense, Tanner Lee, a real offense, etc.

Really depends, our ceiling is much higher than our floor. Next two years are real challenging due to scheduling but if we are competitive, then I'm very excited.

This defense is going to be problematic.

I understand they made some schematic adjustments at the half which helped, but regardless we are very weak personnel-wise out on the edge. If teams are going to pick on Lee Jr or whoever we decide to put out there at corner, and make us try to help with a LB like Gifford coming over, it's gonna be 8 yard chunks all day.

The offense looks great, aside from the (mostly) right side of the OL. They got absolutely destroyed. But if Tanner Lee can remain in one piece and mostly alive, he looks damn good. Our first real quarterback in a long time.

Tre Bryant is special. Just please do not make him carry the ball 30-some times per game. You have two other capable backs, use them.

Spielman, Pierson-El, and Morgan are super fun.

Next up, Oregon...feel like a thousand points are going to get scored next week.

I didn't see the game last week, but it sounded like we didn't look good.

This week I wished I hadn't watched that **** show. The defense was alright, but this has to be the most inept offense I can remember.

We get a (supposedly) pro-style qb to make throws down the field, but our o-line sucks and Lee's a statue in the pocket. And that huge line can't get any push on short yardage plays.

Gonna be a long season.

Gotta have patience. Riley is young, and an up and comer. Think he could get you guys back to Pelini level Nebraska before he retires if things go perfect.

Nebraska fired Solich after a 10 win season and Pelini after never winning fewer than 9. Then they pick up Riley who was definitely not a splash hire. If the admin were trying to de-emphasize football would their actions look any different ?

Maybe the more appropriate question is if everyone got 100% committed and went all-in emphasizing football as the most important thing to the institution -- would they be able to do any better? Gotta think that's the question that haunts Nebraska fans. Without Tom filling up a bunch of fat corn farmers' sons full of steroids and running a gimmick offense, it's not sure what the model is there for success. Why would a top coaching option go to Lincoln, and what do they really have to offer? They should just hire Scott Frost and hope for the best. At least he's not on Social Security yet and a full rebuild is plausible.

With the right guy, I think Nebraska could achieve pretty good results. They were already decent with Pelini. There is no real competition in the B1G west. You play 3 bad teams OOC, go 5-1 in the west, that's 8 wins a year guaranteed. Some years will be lucky they won't have to play PSU-OSU-UM in the east, and can get to 10 wins almost without playing anyone. Then you luck sack the B1G champ game and you're in the playoffs. If Nebraska gets rolling, makes the right schedule moves and starts winning 9-10/yr they will get enough recruits to beat everyone reliably except the top half of the east with whom they are at a massive recruiting disadvantage.

I guess if I am an up and coming coach, the B1G west is a pretty desirable half conference to play in. You can schedule your way to success there. And of the 7 programs on that side, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa are the places I would want to be with the right support.

A lot of house-cleaning needs to be done in the athletic department at many levels. There are a lot of people who are comfortable just coasting on the '90s legacy and not doing the work needed to win.

Obviously we're looking at a very similar situation to 2007. AD a likely midseason firing and Riley gone right after.

Good.

Eichorst didn't want to do his job. After firing Pelini, it seemed like he zeroed in on Riley without doing a proper search.

Bring in Trev.
