Re: Favre to Vikings?

ESPN reports Chilly set a deadline for Favre to decide and Chilly says that report is false.

Re: Favre to Vikings?

How can Vikings fans be remotely excited about this? Let's ignore the fact he's going to be awful, but don't you feel this will totally overshadow the rest of the team? Every single game, every single play, all the focus is gonna be FARVE FARVE FARVE, that would tilt the crap out of me.

Farve doesn't give a crap about the Vikings, just like he doesn't give a crap about the Jets. This whole circus is about him, his ego, and the sand in his vagina.

Re: Favre to Vikings?

Because we haven't had a QB since Tarkenton (well, dante for 1 year) that I would want behind center down four points with 2 minutes left in the game. We have a good team here, we really do, but we don't have a QB who can come from behind in a game. This is especially important in the playoffs.

We will make the playoffs with/without Favre, but with Favre there is at least a chance of us winning it all.

Re: Favre to Vikings?

I don't know about Vikings fans, but for the rest of us it's going to be awesome to watch him fail. He's only coming back to get revenge and I can't wait to see it backfire. Favre is no good anymore. He's going to try way too hard in the 2 Packers games and throw 7 INTs. Favre's legacy will take a nosedive and once he signs with the Vikings, he'll be less beloved in Green Bay than Ted Thompson.

Re: Favre to Vikings?

Are you saying you would rather have Jackson or Rosenfels behind center? I hope not. I'd love to see us release Jackson and I'm not sold on Rosenfels yet. You forget that he would have the best running back in the NFL behind him. If he can swallow his pride a little bit and hand the ball off to AD and hit the open receivers we'll be great. I remember Steve Young breaking down film on NFL Live last year and showing what defenses were doing to stop AD and him saying "If I could see defenses like that all game, I could come back and throw for 3,000 yards." He doesnt need to be superman, I want someone who can lead a comeback with 2 mins left in the 4th quarter. Even with his age there are very few qbs in the NFL I would rather have.

Are you serious? I guess if you want a QB who has to come back in the 4th quarter, Favre's your guy. God knows he'll create enough turnovers to make that scenario happen quite often.

Yes, I'm serious. Watching him play enough games I honestly would rather have him than any of our current qbs. Favre>>>Tjack Rosenfels

Meh, I was one of the people defending Favre during the last go around but this just isn't a viable defense anymore. Guy is out of his mind.

You've taken the bait, bitten into the hook, and are being reeled in by Brett Favre.

You shouldn't want Favre as your quarterback down four points with two minutes left in the game. He'll be s below average when trailing in the fourth quarter. You're simply buying into the hype created by Favre's genuinely great days past.

The Vikings are less likely to make the playoffs with Favre as their quarterback. If they do make it with him, they are less likely to win playoff games with Favre.

Favre is a below-average quarterback and should only be expected to get worse.

Re: Favre to Vikings?

it's a stretch to call him below average. he played pretty well for the jets prior to the arm injury. were i a viking fan i would be concerned whether he can make it through a full season

its a stretch to call him below average ya, its also a stretch to say he played pretty well for the jets. he had 3 good games (vs arz, at ne, at ten) and the rest of last season was no better than average, and probably slightly worse

at the same time this is clearly wrong. ***** may be no better than average, but its still strikingly clear that ***** >> rosenfels/tjax

Re: Favre to Vikings?

I really don't think it is clear that Favre > Rosenfels/Tjax. Favre will continue to regress, he has one of the higher sack rates in the NFL, which will force the team into a lot of 2nd and third and longs, which isn't what they want. He is a 40 year old QB coming of Tommy John, who was comparable to Kyle Orton FFS, he isn't a great catch and I think Sage/Tjax making a leap is much more likely than Favre returning to form after Tommy John.

because 6 of those tds were in one blowout game? and his completion percentage was high because he was tossing a bunch of dump off passes. this of course illustrates a big problem with conventional football statistics.

below average imo

favre sure loves his dumpoffs. yac, baby

I thought I was going to defend the Favre was average + before his injury side when I went back to check his stats but they speak pretty badly of him. In games 5,6 and 7 he combined for 74/111 and 6.1 y/a with 3 TDs and 7 INTs- in this stretch he played Cin, Oak and KC. That's a really worthless stretch of games against bottom feeders where if you could think he did OK by looking at completion %, total yards and wins. The Jets ood games were

SDG (mediocre)
Ari (good)
Cin (crap)
Oak (crap)
KC (crap)
STL (crap)
Den (mediocre)
SF (mediocre)
SEA (crap)
Ten (good)

Thats a pretty easy lineup (though I guess the didn't get to play Cle and Det)

I thin I am going to go with- Brett Fave -> noticeably below average last year w/o injury.

not to be a nit, but his sack rate was actually the only thing he didnt suck with last year

as for tjax/rosenfels, i def have some faith in rosenfels to be better, but obviously hes not going to get the chance this year. tjax has all the potential obv, but he seems like quite the aaron brooks type

Wait...this is basically what Sage is BEST at doing. I watched him come into a few games where Schaub got hurt and Texans were losing and Sage (who is actually a lot like a 40 year old Favre) would gun-sling all over the place, putting mad points on the board.

He's a risk-taker though and a bad game manager with the lead (See Indy @ Houston, 2008 for one of the worst examples of game-management and decisionmaking of all-time and no that isn't hyperbole). But if you need someone who isn't afraid to go balls-to-the-wall and get vertical and throw downfield, Sage is that dude, late and down by a couple scores.

I don't think many people are that familiar with Sage but I saw all his performances last year as a local Houstonian and I believe he is basically as valuable as Favre at this point in Favre's career. THe difference between the 2 apparently is that Sage is not an ego-centric douchebag of epic proportions.

Based on who we currently have, I disagree.

Favre didnt have Tommy John surgery, he just had a tendon removed. It was not used as a replacement for another tendon. Favre's procedure was fairly minor.

TJ has zero chance of being an effective player in the NFL imo.

I've said this before earlier in this thread: if Favre does come to MN and is a failure, it magnifies Childress' failure to get us a competent (let alone good) starting QB during his tenure here. So if Favre fails, I don't see how Zygi can keep Chilly another year. If Favre is better than what we now have, the Vikes will have a good year. win-win imo. Pissing off Packer fans is an added bonus.
