I had a chance to watch the replay on NFL network last night. I don't know if it was all of the Basil Hayden I had consumed to calm my nerves and inevitably dull the staggering pain that was yet to follow on Sunday, but I did not remember just how many chances we actually had to win this game.
A couple that stand out are of course when Leber made a play on the ball that may or may not have been picked had he let it go. That is just bad luck as he was making a play on the ball and didn't realize that Tyrell was in position to possibly make the pick. I say possibly because later on Tyrell literally had a slow moving football in his grasp and couldn't hang on to it. Griffin was almost in position to make a sweet int that probably would have been returned but alas that was not to be either. Overall the defense played awesome and shut down one of the most proficient offenses in the last 15 years
On offense we absolutely dominated time of possesion and total yardage despite turning the ball over a rediculous number of times. So many Red Zone opportunities were blown by unlucky turnovers but I still wasn't worried as we were destroying them on offense and shutting them down on defense. If only Favre leads Percy a little more on the crossingfade, or if only AP jukes Sharper when he is the only man to beat, etc. etc. I am now convinced that Favre is Wolverine incarnate and I have nothing but love for the warrior and I really hope he is back next year. Sure he made a poor throw at the end of the game but this game was decided by Red Zone turnovers and of course the officiating.
I used to know Pete Morelli's home telephone number. No joke, I worked on one of his loans and now I wish I had written it down just in case
I cannot beleive that these guys are paid as much as they are and yet still can show complete incompetence and be asked to return year after year. Again I didn't recall just how ****ed we were at the end by the inept crew. I know that in the fourth quarter the penalty count was 8 to 2 with Saints being penalized 88 yards to our 10. Now, did the officating crew decide to even it up ? Who knows. There were 3 booth reviews in OT that were conducted. Pierre Thomas lost his grasp on the football when diving over the pile on 4th and 1 and Chilly actually did something right and called a timeout so the booth could reveiw the play. He clearly lost posession of the ball ; Therefore, Forward progress should not have been awarded and he would have been short of the first, Vikings ball. The PI on Leber was about as bad a call as I have seen, and finally they rule that the Saint's receiver( can't remember , Meacham I think ) made a catch when he clearly did not have control of the football enevitably leading to the FG.
Chilly !!! what can you say ? I know that we shouldn't see A.P. on the sidelines during the NFC championship game unless he is hurt ,regardless of how may times he has coughed it up. It is ironic that Tahi was the 12th man in the huddle because Chilly was trying to out smart his opponent by disguising our personal only to out Chilly himself. GG Chilly !!
