Defense is fine; only the Bears and Cowboys have given less points in the NFC. Averaging about 16 points per game against. In today's NFL, that's pretty good. The offense is embarrassing though. So 1-dimensional and predictable. Cousins seems to be getting worse somehow; not sure what we do at this point.
When I say overrated defense, I’m not saying they are bad. I think they are somewhere in the 10-12 ranked d in the league. I don’t think they are top 5 like a lot of people seem too.
the defense is curious. they seem dominant against 2/3rds of defense but seem to get overpowered by elite O-Lines and consistently outmatched by good o-coordinators. those weaknesses are typical of most all defenses, of course, but probably a good indicator they're not elite elite. just very talented and disciplined with good schemes. but not like '89 CHI or '00 BAL elite that can win a championship on their own with bottom 1/3rd QB / offense
anyone else excited about trading one of the few offensive talents and singular player who reminds you of good times and minnesota miracles? hooray...

garret also has a lot of WIL, i could see a redux of "YOU LIKE THAT?" tomorrow night where kirk pretends he's the **** for the first time in like 25 primetime nights, before he inevitably fizzles out when it actually counts in the last few weeks of the season / wild card and we go quietly into the night

today's vikes game was pretty insane. 1st half was like moore's law. nice composed comeback. rhodes truly is awful this year... waynes on the other hand is playing great. had an excellent game, basically only pass he conceded was on the trick play where he was still in excellent position and somehow wasn't able to swat it away. amazing hold at the end by our D, especially without smith.
This defense is frustrating to watch. The breakdowns on big plays giving up massive chunks of yards on both running and passing plays - good defenses dont do this with such regularity. Rhodes is washed up, but that long TD that looked like it was his fault was probably the fault of one of the safeties who was out of position on that play. I am no expert, but Wilson looked like he was out of position on at least two or three of their big runs. I dont know if this is coaching or players not executing, but either way, this sucks.
Diggs is a great player sometimes, but he has had a lot of really bad plays that hurt us badly this season. Cousins last two INTs were caused by Diggs dropping catch-able balls. The previous one was the ball the went through Diggs hands, bounced off his face and into the defender's hands. The one last night wasnt as bad, but it was still bad. He's also has some bad fumbles and other drops this season.
We had the best offense we've had in a long time. Now our star RB is hurt, our LT is hurt and our star WR is hurt. It was pretty clear that Cook's shoulder was injured late in the 1st half when Clowney fell on him at the end of a play. The Cook fumble in the 2nd half probably would not have happened if his shoulder was ok. It didnt even look like he took much of a hit on that last play before he came out for the rest of the game. I am pretty sure that Sugarman put pressure on Cook to play in the 2nd half despite his shoulder being injured. Cook should have not been on the field.
This season had some potential, but its turning into a disaster.
The only bright side last night was that once we dug the 17 point hole, we came back to life and made a game out of it. Coming back vs Seattle is a lot tougher than coming back vs Denver though.
Thielen not being able to play out of a bye is a major concern. The hammy must be injured pretty badly.
Also I heard that the long TD pass was Rhodes fault. The coverage they were playing had the safety helping out on the first receiver that went deep. Rhodes was covering the second receiver.

yeah, hammies are tricky. They can hang on a long time.
I read that same thing you heard after I made that post. Apparently Rhodes threw a fit on the sidelines and Zimmer sat him on the bench for two series because of throwing the fit. What an idiot. We need to get rid of Rhodes next season.
