Kluwe's story would play better if it was "here are some things that happened" instead of "I'm awesome and they fired me because bigotry."

He better have some serious proof or several players backing him up or he's an absolute idiot.

Even in Kluwe's own retelling he came off terribly.

I like how Kluwe keeps calling himself the greatest punter in Vikings history, despite sacrificing his personal stats because coaches asked him not to out-punt the coverage....as if they didn't ask that of all the other punters in Vikings history, just him.

I was listening to Ron Rosenbaum on Barreiro yesterday. He says that Kluwe probably doesn't know what he got himself into by doing this. Even if this happened the way he said it did, and there were witnesses, and even if they cooperate, they might not remember everything the same way he does, if they remember it at all. Defending himself from slander charges might cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If its proven that Priefer did all the stuff Kluwe says, his NFL career could be over, but even if that happens, Kluwe doesn't come out of this undamaged. Kluwe's going to have a hard time getting any jobs going forward.

The Vikings are doing everything right by hiring top notch lawyers to insulate themselves from any fallout from this.

Huge ****storm coming.

I would be very surprised if Kluwe hasn't anticipated potential legal costs. His decision to write the deadspin appeared does not appear to be a spur of the moment decision.

I think Kluwe's future earning potential has been increased, not decreased by his activism (assuming he really isn't good enough to punt for an NFL team anymore). He can probably write a book and make some money. And exactly what type of jobs is he going to be locked out of? Insurance salesman? Also he's made millions and I'm guessing he has been smart enough to save some of it.

I don't really get the Kluwe hate. Given the traditionalism of the NFL I find everything he's claimed very easy to believe.

clarification: if you are implying that Kluwe isn't going to get a punting job going forward, he knows this and has already said as much.

Kluwe rarely seems to champion his causes in a likeable, respectable way.

His methods seem very brandish, and attention whoreish to me and a lot of other people.

I agree with every one of his points 100%, but he is completely obnoxious. We are sick of it, go away Chris.

Anything related to the NFL or college football. No radio or tv station or network or team is ever going to hire him. He's a loose cannon.

Serious question: do a lot of former punters go on to lucrative careers in broadcasting or football?

this so much. Even his thinking that he got cut for his beliefs is extreme narcissism. Nobody cares what you think, Chris.

A book on punting? Or world of warcraft? Or making terrible music with a terrible band?

He's already written one book, which I believe sold quite well.

I dont know. Greg Coleman somehow has a broadcasting job despite being an idiot.

Kluwe seems intelligent, so those doors (coaching or broadcasting) could have been open for him. They are not anymore.

Outside of football related stuff, I certainly would not hire him to do any job that has to do with communicating with other people. It would be a crap-shoot to trust him to use good judgement.

Burning bridges, especially in such a frontal, spiteful, public way, is stupid and short-sighted as far as future career opportunities go imo.

The biggest issue I have with Kluwe on the whole situation is this:

If Prefier did indeed say this why wouldn't you go to Frazier, Speilman or Wilf(who he stated backed his cause) about this issue especially if there is a gay employee working for the Vikings? Why would he allow a bigot to go unscathed for 18 months? Basically as long as he was collecting a paycheck from the Vikings that took priority over any issues at Winter Park. Only until he knew he would never play again in this league would he say something. Talk about a ****ing hypocrite.

So if 2+2 paid you a million a year to update the vikings thread you wouldn't wait until your contract was up to tell everyone Sklansky and Malmuth called you a ___? Come on now, let's be reasonable. Kluwe is obv butt hurt and venting but you can't really knock him for waiting.

I'm not even close to being religious but his pregame sermons on the radio are always the nuts. Follow that up with a "BOOOOOOOOMMMM" from PA and I'm ready to go.

While contracted with the Vikings Kluwe was very outspoken about gay equality. Don't you find it rather hypocritical he waits to say something about this rather than speaking up right away? Players can make anonymous reports to the NFLPA about issues such as this and at the very least could have went to the owner who supported him in his cause. Kluwe is quoted as saying this as well:

In Deadspin article:
"If there's one thing I hope to achieve from sharing this story, it's to make sure that Mike Priefer never holds a coaching position again in the NFL, and ideally never coaches at any level."

On an interview with KFAN he stated this:
“I’m not out to ruin [Priefer’s] career...”

It's pretty obvious Kluwe is doing this for his own selfish gain and has no issue who he takes with him.

Good lawyers are going to use conflicting quotes like that to tear him apart imo.
