With respect to the run defense: most of the problems yesterday looked schematic or with LBs just getting beat. I don't think we need to worry about Pat Williams as a lot of people are suggesting.

I'm not worried at all about Fat Pat. He is as good as there is at his position.

EJ is the guy who was in the wrong place all day long yesterday. He is/can be a lot better than that. I dont know what the **** he was trying to do yesterday - maybe trying too hard or something. He needs to be disciplined & do his job. When he does that, he's a stud. I really think him being out of position was the biggest problem all day for our running defense, and we still gave up a decent yards per carry average - 3.8. We can/should do better vs Detroit though.

also give CT more carries ldo, Peterson should avg under 20 a game, i like how we have taken favre out of the game when we have it in the bag, i wish we'd pull the trigger on taking AD out sooner, but we have been better this yr about that as well.

Peterson only got 15 carries yesterday.

ya which is a perfect # for a game vs the lions cuz obv there will be games where he'll actually need more than 20 carries for us to win, now if only he didnt lead w/ his helmet so much

When you have an average of 2 guys who miss/dont bother blocking people every play, the defenders are loose in the backfield constantly.

given their first two opponents being risk averse is the best strategy imo

wow. is that avg just on the sack plays or overall? espn analysts were placing blame on pats oline showing how brady only had 1.86 seconds to throw on the 4th down play vs Jets.

A 3 yard pass is a replacement for an inept run game, not a better substitute for an already super strong run game.
their short routes probably just ensure linebackers don't just head downfield every play. it's funny because most teams use the run to set up play action pass, whereas i think vikings have to use play action passes to set up the run. just on principle they should allocate 2-3 1st and 10's per game to go for play action deep routes

i think this is absolutely wrong. i have adp on my only fantasy team.

that nfl map site shows the L.A. area is supposed to have the SF @ MIN game, but my cable guide is showing NYG @ TB. WTF? Who the hell watches the Giants or Bucs here? Really don't want to get directv just to get vikings games but i might be forced to.

i was surprised we're 7 point favorites vs niners. that's encouraging.

It isn't that they aren't throwing "deep" routes. It's that they haven't even been throwing many mid-range routes. It is allllll screens, slip screens, checkdowns and whatever you call it when you just throw to the WR at the LoS because the CB is playing off them.

hosted.stats.com says Vikings receivers have 206YAC this season. Favre only has 265 total passing yards. (265-206) + 14 (for TJ to CT) = 73. Favre has completed 73 yards worth of passes in 2 games. He has 37 completions which means that his average completion has been within 2 yards of the LoS!

I know the Vikings have run a fair number of screens, but that is crazy.

And RE: people saying they shouldn't be taking many/any risks against the Browns/Lions:

I agree that sounds good, but when you are going 3 and out 3 straight times in the first half against a terrrrrrible defense and going into the half down two straight weeks it is very possible that your strategy (at least in the first half) was sub-optimal.

Its also worth noting that both second half TDs came as the result of turnovers (at the 27 and then 16 of Detroit) so it isn't like they dominated there either.

Maybe Birk's skills were declining, but he is certainly much better than his replacement.
