Screw all the Favre hate. He was a great great HOF QB in the NFL. We hope he is just competent this year, because that's what we need. Just because we are Vikings fans we don't have to deny how awesome Favre was in GB.

It's like if you were a diehard Lakers fan and hated Larry Bird just because he played for Boston. It's stupid. He was an awesome player. And so was Favre.

they don't hate him because he was a packer...

i don't blame people for not liking favre. he is an attention whore. doesn't really bother me, i'm willing to accept it if it means TJ doesn't play, but i get it.

i mean i'd rather have cutler or warner or schaub or someone, but i'll gladly take favre. it's like the difference between edgar renteria (if renteria was a prima donna) and matt tolbert

+1, came in here to say exactly this. I mean, he is not Cutler but he is an obvious, monumental improvement over TJack and a definite improvement over Sage.

Tjax was better than Favre last year.

He was a great QB in the NFL he has had one competent year in teh past 4-5. We are paying him $6 mill a year so he can be worse than Sage and he is a douchebag, egomaniac, drama queen, pain killer addict.

yeah and it's ridiculous that you expect that to be true again this year.

let me rephrase: it's ridiculous if you think his EV this year is higher. (i'll admit there's a very good chance that TJ would be somewhat better over one random 2009)

A bright side is that Favre should have enough clout to audible (hopefully all) Chilly's horrible, horrible play calls.

So young QB not coming off shoulder surgery, who has been at training camp for the duration and was better last year < Older QB, coming off shoulder surgery, showing up halfway through training camp?

+1 to anything you say about this subject from now on, because i agree completely.

Favre throws more interceptions than TDs, I like QBs that throw more TDs than interceptions...I also like QBs not coming off of major shoulder surgery, and generally like QBs under the age of 35

One thing that I love about this is it reduces the chances of TJ ever playing another game in purple. Some people are talking about trading him, but I dont think he has any trade value at all. Its looking like TJ vs Booty for #3 to me with the loser getting cut. Go Booty imo.

I can understand if people hate Favre. I think he's an ******* too, but he gives the Vikes the best shot they've had in a long time to contend for the Super Bowl.

I think Sage might actually be a good starter someday too. I think he'll make an excellent backup this year.

If Favre doesn't play better than Sage would have, its all Chilly's fault.

I cant believe some of you guys think TJ actually has a shot to be a competent, let alone good, NFL QB. Don't they have the NFL in HD in Canada?

Cha,
They do . Apparently they don't have HD Jets games in Minnesota.

why do so many vikings fans think sage is better than tjax? any explosion he adds to the passing game will be mitigated by turnovers they should be losing with their defense or b/c adp gets bottled, not b/c their qb is a to machine. on a team with a weak defense you would rather have sage than tjax, but it seems like the vikings just need someone who isn't going to make a lot of errors

is it? doesn't seem like rosenfels will be asked to do the things that he does better than tjax enough to make him preferable

Rosenfels would be in the conversation as the worst starting QB in the league if he ended up with the job. No idea where the concept of him being a serviceable player came from at all. Jackson is in the same boat but is at least more familiar in the offense and is younger.

Favre signing was a good move in that he is unlikely to be worse than either and there is a non trivial chance that he is a significant improvement. Just two years ago Favre had a legit MVP argument. Last year wasn't any good but he didn't want to play for the Jets for starters and played a decent amount of the season with a shoulder injury. I mean LDO there's no way he can get back to 2007 level because of the new team and all. Barring injury though imo he should be about the 15-20th best QB in the league, at worst he is marginally better than Rosenfels--who is the turnover version of Favre without the upside.

That said I hope Favre gets hit by a bus.

wait, you would expect TJ to make fewer errors than sage? i know he only threw 2 INTs in like 6 games last year, but some of you are reading way too much into that. 1. he was running really hot and 2. an INT is not the only error you can make.

i think TD/INT is a very overrated (though not useless) stat.

I know that Favre was playing well before his bicep tendon became an issue. The surgery he had to correct that was successful & that part of his shoulder is no longer an issue. The other part of his shoulder that is injured has been injured for several years and should not cause problems. If it does, this whole thing is Chilly's fault.

Because we've watched TJ try to play for his whole career.

Its obvious you haven't seen enough of TJ if you think he will make less errors than anyone else. He is awful. He looks clueless on the field most of the time. He looks even worse in pressure situations.

Maybe we haven't seen enough of Sage yet to think he is worse. From what I've seen, which includes when he played against the Vikes last year, he looks a lot better than TJ. I'm aware he blew up in some games & one was really bad, but he seems to have an idea of what he's doing most of the time. TJ does not.

someone i used to work with told me the vikings are trying to trade TJ, sid rice and a 3rd rounder to the broncos for brandon marshall. i have no idea where he heard this and it's just rumour as far as i know, but that would be awesome.

That would have to be one of the best trades in Vikings history, can we throw in Chilly as part of the trade as well?

I heard the Common Man (Common Idiot imo) say this as a throw away joke line today. He went on to compare that to a deal someone threw out last year - something like Rice & Allison for Anquan Boldin. I'm sure the Cards would be all over that

If Denver is stupid enough to do something like that, then yeah, awesome. I highly doubt there's anything to it. It was just the Common Idiot trying to rile people up imo. I dont even know why I was even listening - I hate that show.

i don't think you are any better at judging qbs than dvoa or even qb rating is at judging qbs. in fact you are probably worse because you have silly biases.

oh. yeah, makes sense the guy who mentioned it listens to kfan all day and isn't very bright.

although i was actually hopeful that there were actual trade talks considering that marshall seems like he's basically refusing to play for denver this year.
